After busting $1.5 million myth, LeBron James reveals diet to play elite basketball at 40
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has followed a strict diet along with a fitness and recovery routine throughout his NBA career.

Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James reveals his diet
Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has evolved over time as a basketball player. But throughout the twenty-two seasons he has plied his trade in the NBA, he has been on top of his conditioning and fitness.
Sure, he has dealt with some injuries over time. But whenever he is healthy, he still has the fitness to keep up with the younger stars of the league. At age 40, he keeps dunking and hustling as if he has not lost a step. He might have slowed down slightly over time and sometimes does not use maximum effort.
That indicates he is trying to manage his energy during a game, something most older players do. Even then, he does not hesitate from doing things no other 40-year-old has done in NBA history. There have been rumors of the Akron native spending $1.5 million on his body every year.
But when he appeared on The Pat McAfee Show, he clarified that the number was not accurate. He did acknowledge that he does a lot more than others but did not get into details. But he did reveal his diet to Mind the Game co-host Steve Nash.
First, he revealed that he does not eat a proper meal until after practice. He concentrates on hydration and has either a green smoothie or some fruits. He clarified that his first meal is around 1:30-2 in the day. That is by design so that his body absorbs all the nutrients after shedding all the calories he burnt during practice.
When Steve Nash asked LeBron James if he took supplements such as Creatine, he clarified that he does not. He only eats everyday vitamins from natural sources. However, many have accused the Los Angeles Lakers superstar of using various substances in the past.
Rumors of growth hormones, Biogenesis and other PED’s
It is not common for a forty-year-old to play at this level after taking all the punishments over twenty-two seasons. Even the great Michael Jordan did not have the consistency of his past at age 40. That is why, many have constantly asked if LeBron James was taking any sort of enhancers.
His 2015 trip to Miami led to a lot of questions. Many felt his sudden energetic return had something to do with performance enhancing drugs. However, there were no direct evidence to support it, hence that rumor died a natural death.
Then MMA legend Chael Sonnen claimed that his drug supplier was also supplying to the Lakers superstar. But he soon clarified that it was not a direct accusation, rather some supposed eyewitnesses had told him, but were not ready to back up their claims.
The NBA conducts drug tests randomly. But in the case of a few players, the league’s anti-drug testing found that they were using human growth hormones. Surprisingly, James was not subjected to those tests and thus those claims were never verified.
Lastly, a federal investigation was linked with Savannah James and two of the Lakers star’s associates. But again, no concrete evidence was found. Now all those accusations have fallen flat, and the 40-year-old continues to defy the odds.
LeBron James focused on winning another NBA title
It might just be that LeBron James is a freak of nature who has been adhering to a strict diet and regimen to stay in top shape. His focus is to continue winning basketball games as well as possibly win a title or two.
The superstar might retire from the game in the next couple of years. But before he signs off, he wants to do his best to try and win at least one title. He told Steve Nash that competing in the playoffs is addictive to him.
Maybe that drive to become the best ever is pushing him to go for glory. Even if he retires after next season, that fifth title will help him get another card into the GOAT debate. Some Jordan loyalists might disagree, but his career accolades might be enough to start another debate.
