Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev has denied any involvement with the PTPA or the player’s council regarding the lawsuit against the tennis governing bodies, mainly the WTA and ATP. The PTPA filed the lawsuit to create a financial balance between top and lower-ranked players and to clarify doping regulations.

Nick Kyrgios, a founding member of the PTPA, claimed that many players were unhappy with the current situation and supported the lawsuit. However, Medvedev has denied any negotiations or discussions on the matter.

No, I was not asked. Will be honest, I didn’t look into details into it, because probably it’s a big lawsuit, I would guess. I mean, I don’t know how many pages. So I don’t want to comment yet, because I didn’t see it. I didn’t see it, like, in details. So I’m not against; not for it. I just need to know more for the moment.

Interestingly, Medvedev is not the only player to distance himself from the PTPA lawsuit. Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz have also stated that they had no contact with the organization regarding the case.

Similarly, Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff have also denied supporting the lawsuit. Even Novak Djokovic, the founder of the PTPA, has expressed concerns about some of the arguments presented.

Daniil Medvedev crashes out of the Miami Open

Jaume Munar shocked former champion and World No. 8 Daniil Medvedev at the Miami Open. The Spaniard won 6-2, 6-3 in just 78 minutes. Medvedev struggled with a lower back injury, while Munar played a solid match to secure his third career win over a Top 10 player.

Before this match, Munar had never beaten a Top 10 player at a Masters 1000 or a Grand Slam. He held his nerve when serving for the match, saving two break points. Medvedev made 32 unforced errors, while Munar kept his mistakes to just 14.

Munar’s last Top 10 win was against Casper Ruud in Tokyo in 2022. This victory puts him into the third round of a Masters 1000 event for the third time, after reaching the same stage in Indian Wells 2022 and Madrid 2023.

Medvedev, who won the Miami Open two years ago, has only won one title since, in Rome last year. Munar will now face Gael Monfils, who saved a match point before defeating Jiri Lehecka 6-1, 3-6, 7-6(8).

After the 2025 Miami Open, he will drop out of the top 10. This is only the second time in nearly six years that he has fallen from this elite group. The last time was in January 2023, but he returned within three weeks.

Medvedev has been a top-10 player since 2019. He even reached World No. 1 in February 2022. His rise came after winning the US Open in 2021 and making the Australian Open final in 2022.

Since October 2023, Medvedev has not won an ATP title. He came close in two major events in 2024, finishing as the runner-up at the Australian Open and Indian Wells.
