While the Dallas Cowboys handled all contract disputes ahead of the season-opening this week, Dak Prescott is left hanging with an unresolved situation. Now, it seems things are starting to vex the star quarterback, especially Jerry Jones’ affirmative words, to have him back in the future, with no action.
Prescott remained calm throughout the offseason and continued to give his active participation in the practice, unlike CeeDee Lamb. However, he seemed visibly frustrated when asked about owner Jones’ words of keeping him for a long term and he asserted he stopped listening to such things a long time ago.
The signal-caller has been awaiting a deserving extension since the start of the offseason after his prediction last season was to be record-breaking. If Prescott does enter the postseason, he might actually be able to pull off his outfit.
During an appearance on Stephen A. Smith‘s show, Jones was asked to address Prescott’s blunt words aimed at him, and to everyone’s surprise, the Cowboys owner finally gave a clear answer to his future and the reason for such delay in contract negotiation.
The facts are that not only have we had a great supporting cast around Dak but we have also spent some of the money that we’ve got to spend on Dak in the future, that went in on his last contracts.Jerry Jones said
Jerry Jones addresses Dak Prescott’s contract is not only QB’s concern
Judging from Jones’ words, it seems he believes the reason behind Prescott’s success is because of the Cowboys’ strong support team. That’s why he first locked in them and now remains skeptical if the quarterback would be able to perform.
We have the challenge of not only recouping what we have spent on him over the last 4 years, we’ve got to add that to what we’re going to be paying him for the future. Now that’s not Dak’s problem, only in that it’s the Dallas Cowboys' problem. Because that money isn’t going to be there to spend on a supporting cast.Jerry Jones added
Although Jones reflecting on having the three-time Pro Bowler in the future, he does not plan on doing it anytime soon. For now, he wants to see how the quarterback would perform in the postseason– which may also become quite late for Dallas to keep Prescott.
