WWE star and social media influencer Logan Paul was served a lawsuit from the Olympics and Paralympics committee involving his drink company, Prime Hydration. Allegedly, the company had been promoting their special edition drink with trademarked phrases. The trademark infringement came just a week ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024.

The aforementioned lawsuit was filed in the District of Colorado. The committee stated that Logan Paul used official terms such as, ‘Olympic’, ‘Olympian’, ‘Team USA’, and ‘Going for Gold’. The committee responsible for facilitating the Team USA athletes stated that trademarks were their major source of money. They received money by licensing those trademarks since they didn’t receive financial assistance from the federal government.

The drink in partnership with NBA star Kevin Durant was what led to this. The advertisement on online stores marketed the drink as “Team USA Kevin Durant Drink” and the “Kevin Durant Olympic Prime Drink.” This might have misled people to buy the product despite no official connection. As a result of the blunder, the U.S. Olympic Committee asked for all profits made from the particular drink along with a demand of millions due to additional damages.

Purportedly, an attorney for the Olympic Committee got in touch with representatives of Prime Hydration. Their demand to take the drinks off the shelf was to no avail. The company feigned ignorance and continued to ship the products. One of the major reasons for the lawsuit was the committee’s deal with soft drink corporation Coca-Cola. They had paid a huge amount of money for exclusive rights and Prime Hydration became a hindrance in the deal.

Logan Paul’s Prime Hydration: Marketing genius turned disaster

Prime Hydration, a drink company started in 2022, was quick to cash in mostly due to its founders, Logan Paul and KSI. The company gained fame pretty quickly with some US stores limiting supply due to increased demand.

Prime Hydration has been repped by many athletes before Kevin Durant. Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Judge, Tyreek Hill, and Israel Adesanya are some of them. Logan Paul and KSI chose Durant looking at his stats, hoping for a huge turn-up. However, that played like a boomerang for them. They had to delete almost all social media posts advertising the drink. They also removed the drink from their official Prime Hydration website. However, the ‘Impaulsive’ podcast still remains.

However, the company has had a history of controversies and cases. In 2023, the U.S Food and Drug Administration raised concerns over the high dosages of caffeine in the drink. Provided that the drink will be marketed to children, it was found that it had 200 milligrams of caffeine per 12 ounces. Furthermore, there were questions regarding the drink containing perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Hence, the company has been scrutinized for negative publicity enough times now.
