Number 2 ranked UFC Heavyweight Curtis Blaydes takes on Derrick Lewis in the main event of this week’s UFC Fight Night. Blaydes will be looking forward to earning the highly elusive title shot he has been looking for, since joining the UFC. A win here would surely make him the favourite – getting to fight for the title.
In the fight preview titled It’s My Time Now, released by the UFC on their YouTube channel, Blaydes speaks of the threat he brings to the heavyweight division and how he would be ‘getting the respect he deserves’ after beating Derrick Lewis. He also acknowledges the power Derrick Lewis possesses, all while reassuring that he would be up for it.
‘You beat the guy who makes the most noise then you got the noise behind you‘
Curtis Blaydes can be seen saying in the fight preview, “I’m the most dangerous heavyweight in every situation imaginable. I’ve won four in a row and after I beat Derrick Lewis I will finally have the respect I deserve. You beat the guy who makes the most noise then you got the noise behind you.”
He further says, “I respect the power that Derrick possesses. I understand on the feet, he is a legitimate threat, but I’m not just a grappler, I got heavy hands as well. Derrick Lewis only has one path to victory, he has to keep me on the feet and that is one of the things I don’t plan on letting happen.”
Blaydes who is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Alexander Volkov, is on a four match win streak and hasn’t lost since losing to Francis Ngannou, way back in November, 2018. On the other hand, Derrick Lewis is on a three match win streak and his last victory was a KO victory over Aleksei Oleinik.
