LeBron James

Despite playing at the top level of pro basketball for decades, LeBron James has not slowed down one bit. Widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever, his unprecedented longevity is now tied to his work ethic. Former Miami Heat teammate and three-time NBA champion Udonis Haslem feels the same after having witnessed it firsthand.

While speaking on The Pat Bev podcast, Haslem talked about how LeBron James takes training and practice seriously. The former NBA star also revealed the amount of dedication the 39-year-old puts into his workouts. The retired player admitted that only a few could match the intensity and dedication of LeBron James.

When he talks about how to last and how to stick around in this league, we both had a front row seat to LeBron. If practice started by 10 o'clock, Bron already got to that motherf***** by 7:30... He done be in that weight room already, he done got his shots up; by the time you get to the gym if it's a 10 o'clock practice, you pull up like 8:30, this motherf***** had been in the gym by an hour and a half, two hours.

According to Haslem, James’s longevity over the years is largely due to his incredible fitness sessions. All of the players from his draft class have retired. The likes of Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh have all conceded defeat to ‘Father Time.’ Nevertheless, ‘King James’ continues to perform at an elite level even today.

Furthermore, Udonis Haslem noted that, unlike the others, James would ride a bicycle to the training center instead of driving. He added that these habits combine to give the Los Angeles Lakers star the kind of longevity he has. During his time with the Miami Heat, LeBron James was part of “The Big Three.” Even back then, his wild work ethic culminated in the team winning back-to-back NBA championships.

Former Lakers teammate comments on the training habits of LeBron James

With LeBron James, going the extra mile to achieve his goals appears to be the norm. This trait has been well observed, especially among those who have played with him. Former Los Angeles Lakers teammate Quinn Cook happens to be one of those who recall his training routine.

Speaking in an interview on Jefe Island, he narrated how James trained:

As I make another left to get to the court, LeBron's in a full sweat. Drenched. Practice is at 10, I got there at 7... Bron is in there, full sweat getting after it. This is Bron in 2015... four MVPs later, two rings later.

Indeed, his work ethic was such that teammates across different franchises were in awe of him. As his career enters its final years, the Lakers legend is seen as one of the greatest point forwards. The upcoming season remains important as he seeks a fifth ring to add to his collection.
