Team India squared off against South Africa in the first of the four-match T20I series at the Kingsmead in Durban. They managed to take a 1-0 lead in the series after beating Aiden Markram‘s team by 61 runs. It was all possible because Sanju Samson scored his second T20I century after Markram won the toss and elected to field first.

During the post-match presentation, the Proteas captain heaped praise on Samson for his incredible century. Markram said that Samson kept the pressure on his bowlers right from the start of the innings and played an incredible knock. He felt that it is hard to stop a batter like Samson, who was playing and striking the ball well.

Sanju played incredibly well, put our bowlers under pressure, plans to negate him and better plans will help us going forward. Once he is striking like that, it’s pretty hard to stop and you take your hat off to him.

Aiden Markram said at the post-match presentation

Samson scored a consecutive T20I century and became the first Indian batter to achieve this feat in the format. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter scored 107 runs off 50 deliveries with a strike rate of 214. His innings included seven boundaries and 10 sixes.

Samson has become the fourth batter to score consecutive T20I centuries. During this innings, he also became the joint Indian batter with Rohit Sharma to hit the most number of sixes during a T20I innings.

Aiden Markram did not blame the toss for the Proteas’ loss

Aiden Markram did not blame the result of the toss as the reason behind the loss. Markram felt that the new ball behaved the same in both innings and provided an equal amount of help to both sides. He added that once the new ball became old, it was easier to bat. However, he did blame his batters for not showing the application and skills to score runs on the pitch to chase down the total.
