The Philadelphia Eagles welcomed the Green Bay Packers to Lincoln Financial Field for the Wild Card round on Sunday. Since both defenses are elite, the onus was on the likes of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith to make it harder for the visiting team.

Smith caught four passes for 55 yards as the Eagles went about slowly getting themselves into scoring positions. Not the usual high yardage game for him as QB Jalen Hurts kept it short and simple, knowing all too well that the Packers secondary could force a turnover.

That took a toll when targeting the other side of the field as AJ Brown was targeted just thrice. Hurts missed his leading wideout twice, which meant the three-time All-Pro finished with just one catch and ten yards in the game.

His work in over two hours of football was so low that FOX cameras caught him trying to pass his time with something to uplift himself. Late in the fourth quarter, with the game almost in the bag, a seemingly bored Brown picked a book up from the bench.

He flipped it open and started reading the first page he saw. It even left FOX analyst Tom Brady baffled, suggesting he has not seen something like that in more than two decades in the games. But Brown was trying his best to keep himself focused.

He was reading an excerpt from Jim Murphy’s ‘Inner Excellence’. That book is filled with passages which help one refocus whenever the going gets tough. A few weeks back, Brown’s shot at their putrid passing game raised questions about his relationship with Jalen Hurts.

AJ Brown clarifies why he read the book

One catch for ten yards is tough for a wide receiver who is one of the best in the game. It is harder to digest when the offense is built to be exciting. Known for his outbursts, reporters wanted to know if reading this book was his way of diverting his mind.

It gives me a sense of peace. That’s a book that I bring every single game. My teammates call it a recipe. It’s the first time I heard you all got me on camera. It’s not the first game.

AJ Brown said

He added that the book has a lot of points that help him reset after every drive. It was just that no one has seen it before as he does that in every game. AJ Brown added the game is mental, and that’s where the book helps.

The WR did clarify that even though the stats did not show it; he had a good game. He was able to do enough to help his Philadelphia Eagles teammates grind out the points. The home side went on to win this Wild Card round 22-10.
