An AFC general manager believes that AJ Brown‘s situation might escalate soon. If it does happen, then the Philadelphia Eagles will have no other option but to trade their star receiver.

The Eagles have been a one-trick pony for some time. Their overreliance on running the tush push has alienated the offensive playmakers.

Brown undeniably has suffered the most. Catching just 25 passes for a little over 200 yards and 1 touchdown in six weeks is more suitable for a WR2, not for a franchise’s top marksman.

To make matters worse, the dwindling numbers are not a recent trend. Brown saw very little of the ball even during the Eagles’ Super Bowl-winning campaign.

Before Kellen Moore and then Kevin Patullo acted as the offensive coordinator, Brown produced back-to-back 1450+ yard seasons, 18 overall touchdowns, and multiple All-Pro selections.

Of course, any receiver in Brown’s position would be unhappy with the way the offense is run nowadays in Philly. Sources inside the Eagles’ base spilled that the players held a meeting to solve the issue last week.

While RB Saquon Barkley revealed that a player-only meeting was held, Brown outright denied ever going to one, adding fuel to the fire.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, in a recent report, acknowledged the meeting taking place. Russini also discovered that Eagles GM Howie Roseman may be open to discussing a trade involving AJ Brown.

One AFC GM told Russini that Brown’s attitude appears different. It has nothing to do with frustration or being mad at his QB and OC for failing to incorporate him into the passing game more often.

[Brown] looks indifferent. And that’s not a good place to be. I think Howie [Roseman] moves him. It would have to be for the right player or pick, but [a trade] wouldn’t surprise me. Howie likes deals, especially if a player’s value overrides how Brown is being used.

The Los Angeles Chargers are a perfect fit for AJ Brown’s talent

NFL teams are always on the hunt for an elite playmaker. If the Eagles do make him available for a trade, then there are bound to be a few teams vying for his services.

One of those teams could be the Los Angeles Chargers. The Chargers’ spark has fizzled out following a 3-0 start to the season. Back-to-back losses against the New York Giants and the Washington Commanders exposed their limitations in the offense despite quarterback Justin Herbert playing MVP-caliber football.

Quentin Johnston started the season in red-hot form by racking up 4 touchdowns in four games until his bad habit of fumbling catches returned in the week five loss to Washington.

Ladd McConkey has been a shadow of his rookie self. Many believed that the Georgia graduate would only get better in his second year. However, after posting a 1149-yard and 7-TD season, McConkey has experienced a steep decline. He has yet to cross 100 yards and has only scored 1 touchdown all year.

Brown could potentially fill the gap in Jim Harbaughs attack. However, it ultimately depends on the Eagles’ preferences. They rarely trade their best players, especially mid-season.

Moreover, Brown’s trade will trigger a reasonable dead cap hit according to Over The Cap.

2025

  • Cap number: $17.52 million
  • Trade impacts
    • Dead money: $16.35 million
    • Cap savings: $1.17 million

2026

  • Cap number: $23.39 million
    • If traded before June 1: $45.35 million in dead money, $20.05 million in cap penalty
    • If traded after June 1: $16.35 million in dead money, $7.04 million in cap savings

Roseman has less than a month before the trade deadline ends (November 4). He should not be in any rush to trade Brown right now because there’s plenty of time to patch up loose ends.
