Another week, and the drama at the Philadelphia Eagles continue. The prominent names that feature in this drama are quarterback Jalen Hurts and star wide receiver AJ Brown.
The Eagles won their first four games, even though many believed their offense was not up to the mark. This had a direct impact on Brown’s demeanor, as he looked visibly frustrated at the lack of catches.
Some believed the wideout’s displeasure was misplaced as the goal of any team is to win. While doing so, not everyone will have the best of games. However, when multiple such instances occur, and that too with one of the best players on the team, it is bound to attract attention.
Heading into Game 5, the Eagles were to face the inconsistent Denver Broncos. Playing at home, the Super Bowl champions should have handled their business easily. They did that, streaking to a 17-3 lead in the 3rd quarter.
Then, they had a chance to build on that lead. Jalen Hurts threw to AJ Brown, who broke free from a couple of defenders. However, the ball sailed over his head.

Had he caught the ball, he had nothing but clear grass in front of him. Those 6 points could have helped them win their fifth straight game. Instead, that and another botched play resulted in their first loss of the season.
AJ Brown on the missed TD Pass: “From my point of view it was just a miss.”

Asked if he slowed down because he thought the ball wasn’t coming: “It’s not that I didn’t think it wasn’t coming. I looked up and didn’t see the ball, I looked back and didn’t see the ball. And then… pic.twitter.com/Aum41FlgZn
After the game, Brown did not agree with reporters that he slowed down on that play. Instead, he stated that it was just a missed throw, which essentially seemed like he was deflecting blame onto his quarterback.
Fans fume at AJ Brown for deflecting blame
Football fans have been watching this drama surrounding AJ Brown since last season. This time too, they were appreciative when the Philadelphia Eagles acknowledged that his lack of utilization was a concern, and that they were going to fix it.
Then for the star wideout to slow down on his route and then apparently blame the quarterback did not sit well with fans. They believe he quit the play despite being in a good position to score a touchdown.
On a night when he was being targeted quite a few times, he could have kept his focus instead of sulking. Fans believe now Brown has no excuse after essentially costing his team the game. Check out examples of those reactions below:
AJ QUIT on the route. Had he kept up his pace it would have been a TD.

He can cry all he wants, but the Eagles fed their crybaby WRs and it landed them a loss.

A valuable lesson that they’ll overlook
Only the Eagles could have drama while WINNING then lose trying to silence it 🤣
That’s a perfect throw. Brown gave up on his route.

AJ stopped his route and jogged then realized the ball was up , HURTS is expecting him to run his route FULL SPEED, that’s in AJ not Hurts …. Lazy route running there

AJ slowed down multiple times. If he hustled that's more than likely a touchdown

They need to kick AJ off the team…… send him to Pittsburgh. That'll teach him good. Ahem. Yea!

The ball was where it was suppose to be… You can tell that hesitation was not part of the route

Lazy effort

Had AJ Brown not dropped his pace, Jalen Hurts would have hit him in stride. Talanoa Hufanga would not have caught up with him, leaving the Eagles in a good spot to win the game. However, that was not all the star receiver did to cost them this game.
AJ Brown seemingly sabotaged goal line Hail Mary
If football fans would still give AJ Brown the benefit of doubt on that botched touchdown run, they could not do so after watching what he did on their possible go-ahead score.

Jalen Hurts took the snap with .04 seconds on the clock, waited for his receivers to get up the field, and then launched a deep shot towards the right side of the Broncos end zone.
Wide receiver DeVonta Smith jumped to catch the ball, but it bounced off his hands and out of bounds. On close inspection of the play, it is revealed that his 28-year-old fellow teammate was right behind him, also jumping at the same time trying to catch the ball.

In doing so, Brown invariably impeded Smith in catching it. The latter tried to extend his hands to get hold of the ball, but since Brown’s hands seemingly blocked his vision, the Alabama star could not do anything. That brought the curtain down on the Eagles’ first loss.
