This week’s SmackDown featured the anticipated return of AJ Styles. However, it did not go as planned due to an unfortunate injury sustained by Styles. Following the show, a 30-year-old star dropped a disrespectful message for The Phenomenal One to mock his injury.

Upon his return, Styles was scheduled for a match against rising star Carmelo Hayes. The bout witnessed an abrupt ending given the unceremonious injury of the former WWE Champion. Taking it to X, Hayes called the latter a “quitter” for finding an excuse to escape their battle on SmackDown.

Besides, the match had an opportunity for the United States Championship on the line. Therefore, it was a huge match for both stars. Although Hayes was declared the winner of the match, his chances of facing LA Knight are still up in the air because he did not actually defeat Styles as per SmackDown GM Nick Aldis.

Perhaps this was the actual reason behind the frustration of the former NXT Champion following SmackDown. Time will tell how severe the injury to AJ Styles is. If he recovers expeditiously, it is possible that fans might see another contest between the two stars yet again.

AJ Styles left the Bridgestone Arena on crutches following SmackDown

It was a bad night for AJ Styles on SmackDown. Although he was advertised for a spectacular return, things turned sour for him and his fans. As of now, there are no major updates on the injury to The Phenomenal One. However, a clip has been released by WWE that shows the former TNA star leaving the arena on crutches.

Following SmackDown, Styles was accompanied by WWE medical staff who helped him out of the Bridgestone Arena. He was wearing an injury boot that poses questions regarding his injury being a possible work. It was also revealed that the 47-year-old is going to be taken to a local medical facility for further evaluation.

There is a possibility that WWE might be setting up a specific storyline for him from here on. Moreover, these types of injuries could be a threat to the former WWE Champion, who is working in his twilight years in WWE.
