As reported by PWInsider over the weekend, Triple H‘s creative team has added a new member. The Game’s longtime DX associate, Road Dogg, has been entrusted with the duties of co-lead writer for SmackDown. Ever since it surfaced on social media, the netizens wasted no time in bashing the decision. However, AJ Styles has come up with a little insight.
Taking to X, the former WWE Champion took a firm stand for Dogg’s latest promotion. Styles provided an often-overlooked perspective of Roady’s previous run, where he creatively led the blue brand between 2016 and 2019. The Phenomenal One reminded the naysayers that there used to be a guy at the helm, alluding to Vince McMahon, who basically diluted everything Dogg came up with.
It’s a well-known fact that McMahon was notorious for changing up entire plans for shows minutes before they got on-air. And that’s what Styles is implying happened with Road Dogg during his first tenure as the head writer of SmackDown. Could things be any better now that Vince is no longer freaking out in gorilla? That’s quite possible.
For those wondering, Triple H is still serving as the Chief Content Officer of WWE. He’s expected to make the final call on whatever his writers put on paper. That said, Dogg has the onus to revive SmackDown, which has felt like an afterthought to Raw since adding a third hour to its airtime.
The roster is depleted with a lack of top stars, leading to existing stories moving at a snail’s pace on the Friday-night show. A good part of the fans believe that SmackDown should revert back to being a two-hour program. It’s reportedly on the cards, with the change expected as early as June.
Is Triple H’s creative vision for WWE crumbling down?
Despite the recent overhaul within creative, Triple H remains unaffected as the head honcho of that department. While he’s been critically acclaimed for most of his ongoing role with WWE, is the honeymoon period finally over? Most of Hunter’s recent storyline advancements seem well off the mark.

Beginning with the Royal Rumble PLE, Jey Uso and Charlotte Flair emerged on top as respective Rumble match winners. It left the majority of the WWE Universe with a sour taste seeing those two names leapfrogging their more deserving counterparts.
Next is Drew McIntyre‘s current direction after he just capped off an unprecedented 2024. He’s penciled in for a non-title WrestleMania bout against Damian Priest, which has the Scot as well as his fans up in arms.
Moreover, Paul Levesque‘s decision to hand Shinsuke Nakamura the US title last November continues to prove to be a baffling call. These reasons are a few among many that explain fans’ recent dissatisfaction with The Cerebral Assassin’s booking.
