AJ Styles and Edge are two of the greatest names in professional wrestling. In the year 2022, they had an iconic feud. Fans were excited to see the two greats go against each other. However, it was pretty underwhelming. Speaking of that, the Phenomenal One reflected on his dynamics with the Rated-R superstar during that feud and what made it such a lackluster rivalry.

In an interview on Inside the Ropes, the former WWE Champion heaped high praise on Edge. He went on to say that their feud was a dream feud that fans had anticipated for long. However, when the time came, the characters didn’t work. The Phenomenal One added that the Rated R Superstar should not have been a heel going into the feud. However, AJ Styles admitted that he had fun working with Adam Copeland during their 2022 stint together.

It was a dream feud, but in the wrong context of which it should’ve been done. Edge should have never been a heel. He wasn’t a guy that you looked at as a bad guy. That would be the only thing that I would change. Other than that, we had fun, but it was just a different dynamic.

The two stars had a long feud around WrestleMania 38. They had a series of singles matches that culminated with the Ultimate Opportunist, creating his faction known as Judgment Day. However, his heel run was cut short after he was kicked from his own group later, that year. His villainous stint was criticized by many, even though he himself didn’t find it suitable at that point in time.

Last year, Copeland bid adieu to WWE and went on to debut in AEW. He has been having memorable matches with the company ever since. However, his match against AJ will forever be one of the most important aspects of his career.

AJ Styles talked about how close he was to getting a match with Shawn Michaels

The Phenomenal One went on to reveal that he and the Heartbreak Kid are not the best of buddies. They are not close to each other at all. However, once he had some talks with Triple H. Styles added that there was no straight answer, which made the possibility of the dream match very low.

I remember walking up, it may have been Triple H or someone. I asked him, Hey, does Shawn wanna have a match? And they’re like, I don’t know. [I said] But did we ask him? And they’re like no. I never got around to asking him like I asked The Undertaker.
