A’ja Wilson and her Las Vegas Aces’ momentum and dominance in Game 3 had many believing the Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell-led Indiana Fever had no chance of getting anything done in the second of their home games.

After all, the Aces won the previous game with the four-time league MVP struggling with her shooting efficiency. Since that generally does not repeat twice, most of the analysts and fans felt that the end was near for the Fever.

After all, this was a team that battled through the season without superstar Caitlin Clark and four other players who ended their seasons with some form of major injury.

In the opening two rounds when the Aces lost the opening two quarters as Mitchell and Boston continued to exploit their 1-2 punch as they did in Game 1. Wilson and her teammates tried, but only started to claw back at the lead in the 3rd quarter.

Despite her 31 points, the away team still trailed, and that ended up pushing the series to Game 5. After the 83-90 loss, when asked about what cost them the game, A’ja Wilson replied,

I don’t know, you have to ask Aliyah (Boston) that question. Honestly, you do your work, you’ve got to do your work early. Can’t make it different. But Aliyah did say I have a special whistle, and she shot 13 today. Yeah, she said that after the last game.

A’ja Wilson replied at the post-game press conference

This was a barb at Fever center Aliyah Boston, who claimed after their Game 3 loss that her fellow South Carolina alum was the recipient of a special whistle from the officials.

Fans tear into A’ja Wilson with facts after talking about one-sided foul calls

A’ja Wilson did have a point in this game, as Aliyah Boston did, in fact, shoot 13 free throws. In comparison, the Paris Olympics gold medalist shot just 6 times.

Fans watching this claim did not appreciate what the Aces star said and brought out receipts to help prove the Fever center’s claims. They referred to WNBA statistics and brought up the fact that Wilson has shot 48 free throws in the 2025 playoffs.

In fact, the 6′ 4″ forward/center ranks behind Breanna Stewart in free-throw attempts among all postseason players. In contrast, without the 13 attempts she had in Game 4, Boston attempted just 10 in her previous 6 games.

On top of that, fans felt that this was a low-level excuse for not being able to defeat an injury-riddled team. Check out examples of those social media reactions below:

Game 5 will be in Las Vegas and will be a do-or-die game. The Indiana Fever might have the momentum to surge towards the WNBA Finals, but for that, they have to repeat whatever they did in Game 4.

Sophie Cunningham happy that officials were on their side for a start

All season long, various members of the Indiana Fever have been complaining about officials not giving them a fair whistle. Be it star point guard Caitlin Clark or head coach Stephanie White, they have been one of the loudest critics.

Along with them was Sophie Cunningham, who has been fined three times to date for her various comments on social media. This time, she praised the officials for being on the Fever’s side.

And it’s about damn time. I honestly thought the refs did a nice job today on both sides!

She was careful to add that officials did a nice job on both sides, as otherwise, it would sound one-sided, necessitating another fine for a biased opinion. She must be hoping this would continue into Game 5 away from home.
