Indian Cricket Team registered a thumping win over Australia in the first of the five-match Test series against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 at the Optus Stadium in Perth by 295 runs. Virat Kohli, the star Indian batter, smashed his 81st international hundred and his 30th Test century in the second innings. He remained not-out on 100 runs off 143 deliveries.
Kohli has faced constant criticism and pressure for his underwhelming form in the longest format of the game. He was coming to the series on the back of a lean home Test series against New Zealand and had scored just two hundred in Test cricket in five years.
Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer, Ajay Jadeja has given a perfect reply to Kohli’s critics.
This was Kohli’s first century since the century that he scored in the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. Kohli’s batting average in Test cricket had dropped below 48 and many experts were reckoning that it was time for the former Indian captain to step aside from Test cricket.
Virat Kohli was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained Kohli for INR 21 crore ahead of the mega auction. They also bought many players in to strengthen their squad. It is expected that Kohli will be re-appointed as the captain of the team going into the next season of the tournament.
Former India opener, Aakash Chopra mentioned that he feels RCB have decided to appoint Kohli as their captain.
Kohli will be meanwhile focusing on the next Test which is a Day/Night Test match with the Pink ball at the Adelaide Oval starting on December 6. Kohli has enjoyed some good outings on the ground and is chasing the record of Brian Lara to become the visiting batter with the most runs scored on this ground.
