Indian pacer Akash Deep’s savage send-off to English opener Ben Duckett after claiming his wicket on the second day of the fifth Test at the Oval, has broken the internet. Akash Deep celebrated by putting his arm around Duckett’s shoulder, as he walked off the field.
The Men in Blue did not enjoy the best of starts to the must-win fifth Test match against England, at the Oval. Shubman Gill and Co. already trail 1-2 after the first four Tests. With key players like vice-captain Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah unavailable, India was bowled out for a mere 224 runs in their first innings. Karun Nair top-scored with 57 runs, while England’s Gus Atkinson claimed a five-wicket haul.
England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett got the Three Lions off to a fiery start, showing off their aggressive ‘Baz-Ball’ style of playing Test cricket, stitching a quick-fire 92-run stand off just 77 deliveries. Crawley contributed a fiery 64 runs off 57 balls, hitting 14 boundaries, while Duckett scored 43 off 38 balls, including five fours and two sixes, as the duo hit the Indian bowlers all around the Oval.
The visitors found themselves at a desperate position, needing a wicket to break the opening stand. They finally got the breakthrough they needed in the 13th over, when Akash Deep got the better of Ben Duckett off his fifth ball. The 28-year-old pacer, who had to remain sidelined for the fourth Test at Old Trafford due to an injury, picked up his 12th wicket of the series and dismissed Ben Duckett for the third time.
Akash Deep had already dismissed Duckett twice in the second Test at Edgbaston, where he ended with career-best figures of 10/187. The English opener attempted an audacious reverse scoop, but the ball edged past his bat to land into Dhruv Jurel’s gloves. Akash Deep had bowled a full-length delivery, which nipped away, as Ben Duckett gave away his wicket while going for a shot that he is well known for.
A much needed breakthrough for India 🔥

It was the Indian pacer’s reaction after scalping his first wicket of the day, that took the internet by storm. As Duckett began his walk back to the pavilion, the Indian pacer celebrated with a fist pump. He then went a step further, delivering an uncomfortable yet fiery send-off by placing his arm around the English opener’s shoulder, smiling, and exchanging some sharp words. It prompted KL Rahul to intervene with a non-verbal gesture to pull the bowler away.
Akash Deep’s celebration, while not the most aggressive, has divided fans and cricket experts. While some have criticized the Bengal pacer for his unnecessary antics, a few even suggested he was simply appreciating Duckett’s batting display in a high-pressure situation.
Prasidh Krishna Engages in Verbal Spat with Joe Root, Following Akash Deep’s Send-Off
Following Akash Deep’s send-off to opener Ben Duckett on the second day of the fifth Test, his teammate Prasidh Krishna was involved in his own heated exchange with England’s Joe Root. The Indian bowlers were clearly fired up after being thrashed during the second day’s first session.

The incident began in the 22nd over of England’s innings when Krishna aimed a series of verbal volleys at Joe Root. On the very next delivery, Root responded by hitting the pacer for a boundary. Following the shot, the English batter walked down the pitch towards Krishna to engage in an animated argument. The umpires were forced to step in and separate the two players as the altercation appeared to be escalating.

Mohammed Siraj also intervened to have a word with Joe Root before the situation calmed down. Despite this, the 34-year-old did not seem to be finished and was later seen speaking to the umpire, presumably to express his displeasure about the incident.
