The tennis world is still buzzing after the surprising announcement that Andy Murray will be Novak Djokovic’s new coach. Among the many reactions from players, Alex de Minaur admitted that he was “shocked” by the news.

The Australian star noted the symmetry of this collaboration with an event at the 2022 Laver Cup. In that tournament, Djokovic briefly coached Murray during one of the Scot’s singles matches. That event is best remembered as Roger Federer’s farewell tournament.

The news about Novak (Djokovic) and Andy (Murray) was a real shock to the tennis world. It was crazy to see that. The first experience I had with Andy was when I played the Laver Cup against him. I came into the locker room and Andy was being coached by Roger (Federer), Rafa (Nadal) and Novak. For me, it was one of the most surreal moments of my life. I can’t imagine what that dynamic will be like yet. It will be fun to watch and I will be following it closely.

Djokovic is set to begin his 2025 ATP season at the Brisbane International. However, Murray will not be present there as part of Djokovic’s coaching team.

For now, Murray’s role as Djokovic’s coach is considered short-term, lasting until the end of the Australian Open. The two will decide whether to extend their partnership after the tournament concludes at Rod Laver Arena.

Potential achievements for Novak Djokovic to make in 2025

Novak Djokovic may be in the twilight of his career, but the Serb still has significant milestones to aim for in 2025. While many of his great rivals have retired, Djokovic has no plans to step away from the sport just yet.

Djokovic’s historic journey could begin at the Brisbane International, where he will aim for his 100th ATP Tour title. Achieving this would place him in an exclusive club alongside Roger Federer and Jimmy Connors as the only players with triple-digit ATP singles titles.

A few weeks later, Djokovic will head to Melbourne in pursuit of an 11th Australian Open title. Winning there would make him the most successful Grand Slam player in history, surpassing Margaret Court with 25 Grand Slam singles titles.

Later in the year, Djokovic could also equal Federer’s all-time records at Wimbledon and the US Open. The Swiss Maestro has won eight Wimbledon titles and five US Open titles, achievements the Serb has a chance to match.
