United States women’s football star Alex Morgan broke her silence after being omitted from the national team squad for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. The 34-year old forward shared her feelings on social media, extending her best wishes to the team.
Alex Morgan will not participate in the upcoming Paris Olympics, marking a transition in leadership under new head coach Emma Hayes. This marks the United States’ first major tournament without the ex-Lyon forward since the 2008 Olympics. The manager named a 22-player roster, with only eight returning from the 2020 Olympics. The team is striving to uphold its success despite recent setbacks in tournaments such as the 2023 World Cup and the Tokyo Olympics.
Morgan conveyed her disappointment at not being selected but affirmed her intention to support the team next month. Posting a message on the social media platform ‘X’, she conveyed that she was disappointed not to have the opportunity to represent her country on the Olympic stage, emphasizing that the tournament holds significant personal meaning for her. She emphasized her deep pride in wearing the US crest and expressed eagerness to support and cheer for the team in the upcoming event.
Today, I’m disappointed about not having the opportunity to represent our country on the Olympic stage. This will always be a tournament that is close to my heart and I take immense pride any time I put on the crest.

It is anticipated that Morgan may now be considering retirement, following in the footsteps of her fellow US teammate, Megan Rapinoe. Both players played crucial roles in the United States WNT’s dominance over the last two decades.
