Alex Ovechkin officially became the National Hockey League’s highest all-time scorer this Sunday. The legendary athlete hit the 895th goal of his career, and surpassed Wayne Gretzky as the top scorer in history. To celebrate the milestone, his mother, Tatyana, and wife, Anastasiya, clinked their glasses to more victories further.

Alex Ovechkin‘s fans eagerly awaited the moment when his family cheered for him in the stands of UBS Arena. The entire stadium erupted in applause as the celebration continued later on. In stories posted by Lola Koch, a group of people, including Tatyana and Anastasiya, were cheering for the ‘World’s No. 1.’

The memorable night was greeted with pride and joy from all of Ovechkin’s fans, involving cupcakes with 895 icing to nod to the star player. The other stories showcased his entire team gathered for a group hug on the ice rink. They took the party to the locker room, where they drowned Alex Ovechkin in confetti and fizz.

Anastasiya Ovechkin had another elaborate celebration going on on her Instagram stories. She posted several snaps of their child watching the game from a comfortable seat at the far corner. In one of the clips, she was seen hugging Tatyana, who sat beside her, right after the historic goal.

The two proceeded to join him at the rink later on. The substantial victory happened during the clash between the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders.

The previous record holder, Canadian Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky, who held the achievement for 31 years. The legend was also present at the game to witness the occasion. He also took the rink to shake hands with Ovechkin and fulfilled his promise.

The match was halted for some time to give the legendary athlete time to soak in the moment. He tied with Gretzky on Friday against the Chicago Black Hawks before putting a nail on the wall.

Alex Ovechkin’s 895 goals were an effort of all his 1,487 games played since his inclusion. His achievement transcends the Hockey world as legends from all over the world celebrate the league’s top scorer.

The NHL combined all their congratulations and surprises in one video, also featuring rap icon Snoop Dogg. The Gin and Juice singer admitted to following Ovechkin since the beginning, further lauding him for his contributions to the sport. “Alex Ovechkin, congratulations from big Snoop Dogg. Keep on shining!” exclaimed Snoop Dogg.

Dogg credited Ovechkin for never deviating from the goal and working hard towards it. Apart from him, several other celebrities, Pat Monahan, Dave Coulier, and more expressed excitement over ‘passing The Great One.’

Danny De Vito reassured him of the ‘records meant to be broken’, and encouraged Alex Ovechkin to have fun. Golden Globe Award winner Steve Carell and actor-comedian Dave Coulier also made appearances in the video. While the Hollywood world honors the NHL legend, athletes from different sports also gathered to show their support.

From Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps to Stanley Cup champion Mark Messier, the sports world raved about Ovechkin’s newly set bar. Celebrated American gymnast Simone Biles, NBA veteran LeBron James were also present to bring the cheer to the occasion, with the former hoping for more goals in the future.
