Over the years, there have been several instances of notable MMA fighters and professional boxers going head-to-head. Fight fans often show excitement for such matchups, with Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather being a prime example. Recently, Alex Pereira expressed a desire to clash with Oleksandr Usyk, which has stirred up discussions in the community.

Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira currently holds the title in the UFC light heavyweight division. Since joining the promotion, the Brazilian fighter has received significant praise, which has greatly boosted his confidence as an athlete. As a result, at 37 years old, Pereira has shown interest in participating in super fights. Most recently, during an appearance on the JAXXON podcast, he expressed his desire to fight Oleksandr Usyk.

That’s something he really wants, but he’s under contract with the UFC. We know
(Conor) McGregor did it. Don’t know how he would, but someday he would really like to do it… He’s the champ, he would like to fight a champ so Oleksandr Usyk is the one that he wants… He feels that he could do really good. People talk about boxing, but boxing is one of his strongest parts.

Usyk is recognized as one of the top pound-for-pound boxers in the world. The Ukrainian boxer has an impressive record as an undisputed champion in two weight classes, which has significantly enhanced his reputation globally, even within the MMA community. Furthermore, throughout his professional career, no one has managed to defeat Usyk inside the boxing ring. Now, Pereira aims to challenge him.

A few months ago, Pereira publicly stated his desire to transition to professional boxing. Notably, many top boxers, including Anthony Joshua and Zhilei Zhang, supported the Brazilian fighter’s ambition. Additionally, the UFC light heavyweight champion believes that his boxing skills are among his strongest attributes. It will be interesting to see how this situation develops. For now, it has certainly caught the attention of the general public.
