Last night at UFC 320, Alex Pereira reclaimed the light heavyweight title from Magomed Ankalaev, defeating the Russian via TKO. The anticipation was immense as fans expected a thrilling and competitive showdown between two of the division’s most dangerous fighters.
However, the outcome shocked everyone as ‘Poatan’ needed just 80 seconds to finish Ankalaev with brutal ground and pound. Before the bout, both fighters had developed an intense rivalry that stemmed from Ankalaev’s constant trash-talking and accusations on X. Ankalaev had boldly claimed that Alex Pereira was ducking him and promised to secure a knockout victory at UFC 320.
Pereira later alleged that the online insults were actually written by Ankalaev’s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, and lashed out publicly at him. This prompted Abdelaziz to respond on social media, attempting to clarify his position and deny fueling the fighters’ escalating rivalry.
I don’t insult someone’s family, religion, or his nation. Everything Muhammad Ankalaev said on his social media, he approved it. And if I did help him, it was his knowledge. But, at the end of the day, we are in a fighting business. If people get their feelings hurt over something, beat it…I don’t have any beef with Alex. I respect everything he accomplished…I thought Magomed Ankalaev will beat him. And he already beat him once. And I believe, if they fight again, Magomed Ankalaev will beat him.

Abdelaziz revealed that Ankalaev faced several challenges during fight camp, and he personally did not want the Russian to compete. Despite the advice, Ankalaev decided to fight, ultimately suffering a decisive loss at the hands of Alex Pereira in UFC 320. The Russian fighter did not offer any excuses, acknowledging his defeat publicly and promising fans that he would return stronger soon.

Abdelaziz also responded to critics, asserting that Dagestani and Middle Eastern fighters will eventually dominate the UFC globally. He gained widespread recognition through his collaboration with UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov and his highly publicized rivalry with Conor McGregor.
The manager has frequently faced accusations of posting on social media on behalf of his fighters, stirring unwanted controversies among the fans. In Magomed Ankalaev’s case, these online posts contributed to additional rivalries, including tensions with top light heavyweight contender Jiri Prochazka.
After Alex Pereira, Jiri Prochazka slams Ali Abdelaziz for his online trash-talking
Before facing Alex Pereira, Magomed Ankalaev engaged in online disputes with other top light heavyweights, including Jiri Prochazka and Khalil Rountree. Prochazka and Rountree also competed on the UFC 320 main card, delivering a thrilling war that entertained fans. Initially, Rountree dominated the former champion with striking, controlling the pace and making his opponent struggle to respond.

In the final round, the Czech fighter turned the fight around, unleashing chaos and securing a KO finish over the Muay Thai specialist. Prochazka was also caught being emotional after watching Pereira beat Magomed in the main event. When asked about this in an interview, the fighter shared his rivalry with Ankalaev and his manager, Ali Abdelaziz.
When I was in PI. I trained there in the cage and I saw Ankalaev. He came around me and he just said, ‘Hello’ and I said, ‘(expletive) man. Are you nice or a bad guy? On twitter you are a very bad guy for everyone.’ Then I understand that he’s like a sportsman but somebody else is writing these (expletive) on the twitter. I can’t be angry for him but he is still responsible.

The Czech fighter’s insight proves how little control Magomed Ankalaev has over his social media. Ahead of UFC 320, ‘Big Ank’ posted a photo with Abdelaziz, and captioned it “Twitter kings” to tease the fanbase. However, it all backfired once ‘Poatan’ smashed him at UFC 320.
Meanwhile, Jiri Prochazka is also looking forward to fighting Alex Pereira in the future, in a much-anticipated trilogy fight. Apart from losing twice against the Brazilian, Prochazka has never lost to anybody in the last decade. Other than the Czech superstar, Carlos Ulberg was also present at the Octagon side, wanting to fight Pereira next to get the light heavyweight title.
