When Alex Pereira entered the UFC in 2021, few expected the former kickboxing champion to climb to the top of the sport so quickly. However, the Brazilian star rapidly captured titles in two divisions and established himself as one of the promotion’s most dangerous knockout artists. As he now eyes a historic third title at heavyweight, Pereira has revealed that he recently signed a new eight-fight deal with the UFC.

Pereira last competed at UFC 320, where he knocked out Magomed Ankalaev in the first round to reclaim the light heavyweight championship. The victory came months after their first meeting earlier in 2025 at UFC 313, where Ankalaev defeated Pereira via unanimous decision to capture the title.

The rematch result marked a major turnaround for ‘Poatan’, allowing him to regain the belt and settle the rivalry. Soon after his victory at UFC 320, Pereira revealed plans to move up to heavyweight in pursuit of a third divisional title, a feat never attempted in UFC history.

After a brief period of silence, the promotion announced UFC Freedom 250, where Pereira will face Ciryl Gane in the co-main event for the interim 265lbs strap. The Brazilian later appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show with coach Plinio Cruz, where details of his new contract emerged.

They gave me a new contract. I’m actually really, really happy with my new contract. I actually want to thank Mick, Hunter, and Dana White for it. So, this new deal that they gave to me? I don’t care about letting go of the belt or anything like that. They took really good care of me. The way they gave me this last contract was so good that I let it up to them to do whatever they want. It doesn’t matter.

Pereira acknowledged the role of UFC executives Mick Maynard, Hunter Campbell, and UFC CEO Dana White in helping finalize his new contract. His relationship with the promotion had been somewhat rocky earlier, as he publicly criticized the UFC and threatened retirement in mid-2025. However, Pereira later clarified that his phone had been hacked, which helped clear the air and resolve the misunderstanding.

When the Brazilian star first requested a move to heavyweight, White initially denied it, believing Pereira still had opportunities to pursue in the 205-pound division. However, those doubts were later put to rest when White confirmed the promotion would accommodate Pereira’s wishes. The announcement cleared the way for his upcoming heavyweight run and highlighted his status as one of the UFC’s top priorities.

Alex Pereira’s new eight-fight UFC contract and move to heavyweight mark a defining moment in his career. With a third divisional title within reach, his next bout against Ciryl Gane could solidify his place among the sport’s greats. Remaining at heavyweight thereafter ensures ‘Poatan’ will focus on cementing his legacy, closing the chapter on divisional changes, and highlighting his commitment to the UFC.

Alex Pereira still hopeful for a superfight against UFC legend

Alex Pereira is known for never backing down from challenges, a mindset that has made him one of the most dangerous fighters in the UFC. However, one notable achievement that has remained unticked from his ambitions is a superfight with UFC legend Jon Jones. Despite conquering two divisions and establishing himself as a knockout artist, Pereira has continued to express interest in facing Jones.

Both Jones and Pereira have consistently shown respect for each other inside and outside the octagon. A potential fight between the two had been considered a running favourite to headline the UFC White House event. As the Brazilian superstar now aims to claim the heavyweight championship, he recently discussed how a bout with Jones could still materialize.

I believe so, as long as I win this fight, right? Because otherwise it doesn’t make too much sense, I believe it happens because he’d have to be released by the UFC. I don’t think the UFC is going to release him anytime soon so if he wants to fight, who’s it going to be against? It’s going to be against me.

However, the prospect of a superfight between Alex Pereira and Jon Jones now appears uncertain, as Jones’ relationship with the UFC has turned sour following CEO Dana White’s snubbing of him from the UFC White House card. White’s actions indirectly confirmed Jones’ retirement, casting doubt on any future matchups. This development leaves the potential Pereira‑Jones bout shrouded in mystery.
