On Wednesday night, the 2024 World Series came to an end as the New York Yankees ended up losing Game 5 by a 7-6 scoreline. A huge meltdown in the fifth inning turned out to be a turning point in the game. Former Yankee star Alex Rodriguez would later blast the team for this.
In Game 5, the hosts got off to a flyer as Aaron Judge finally got out of his batting slump. A two-run home run from him got the things going for them. The Yankees captain would also make a spectacular catch in the fourth inning to preserve his side’s lead.
Everything changed in the fifth inning though. Judge made a costly error by dropping the catch of Tommy Edman in center field. This was followed by another error as the Yankees failed to cover the first base when Mookie Betts hit a two-out bases-loaded ground ball.
As seen often in the series, Freddie Freeman would once again come clutch. He drove in two runs to make it 5-3. Teoscar Hernandez would replicate the heroics of Freeman and drove in another two to tie the game at 5-5.
Following the loss, Rodriguez, along with his former teammate Derek Jeter, analyzed the game. While A-Rod credited Cole for his performance, he did not mince his words regarding the team’s defensive performance.

As per reports, this is the first time the Yankees lost a game this season while holding a lead of five or more runs and the first time at home since 2022. This win of the Dodgers kept the record intact. Additionally, no team is yet to force a Game 6 in the World Series after going 3-0 down.
Derek Jeter rips Yankees for their mistakes in Game 5 loss against Dodgers
Just like Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter also did not hold back from ripping the Yankees for their mistakes. The former captain claimed that he does not remember seeing something like this ever in a postseason game in his life.
The Hall of Famer also added that the team cannot afford to make such mistakes against an opposition like the Los Angeles Dodgers.

This now brings an end to the 2024 MLB season. While the Yankees will try to regroup and do one better next season, the Dodgers for now will party all night long in celebration of their eighth World Series triumph.
