The New York Yankees are on the verge of elimination. Following a 13-7 loss in Game 2, the team are 2-0 down in the American League Division Series (ALDS). With the pressure firmly on the shoulders of manager Aaron Boone, Alex Rodriguez came to his defense and expressed that he should not be fired.
Boone has caught massive flak from social media users during the regular season. Several decisions of his were questioned by the fans and the critics.
Ahead of the ALDS matchup against the Toronto Blue Jays, Boone would make a bold comment. He would hit back at Blue Jays broadcaster Buck Martinez, who had claimed that the Yankees were not a good team. The Yankees manager hit back at him and expressed that he was “wrong” in that assessment.
Since this statement from him, the Blue Jays have gone on to dominate their division rivals. After crushing them 10-1 in Game 1, the bats of the Canadian side exploded again in Game 2. Home runs from Ernie Clement, Daulton Varsho (two from him), Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (grand slam), and George Springer led them to a massive 13-7 win.
Following the loss, once again, Boone’s future with the team came into question. On Monday, former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez would join Branden Tierney and Sal Licata on WFAN Sports Radio.
In this, A-Rod would defend Boone and claim that he was a “mouthpiece” of the Yankees, and he does not want to hear from him. He pointed out that he would want to hear about the losses and management decisions from Michael Fishman and Brian Cashman.
Who I want to listen to after the game is not necessarily Boone because you’re not making all decisions. I want to listen to Mike Fishman and Cashman, whose making these decisions, and help the fans understand why we’re doing these things. The why has to be explained. I just feel that Boone is a mouthpiece, and he’s a wonderful manager, and I don’t think he should be fired.

Rodriguez further claimed that Boone had been dealt a tough hand and he had to answer for all the decisions of the front office which he was not making.
Aaron Boone expresses confidence in Yankees making comeback from 2-0 in ALDS
It is a do-or-die situation for the New York Yankees on Tuesday. The team has to win to keep their 2025 season alive. Ahead of that big matchup, manager Aaron Boone expressed confidence in his team making a comeback in the ALDS after being 2-0 down.

One positive from Game 2 for the Yankees was their offense. After going 12-0 down, the team did stitch up some hits and managed to put up some runs on the board. They managed to cut a 13-2 deficit to 13-7, leaving their opposition a bit concerned about making a comeback.
During the press conference after the game, Boone pointed out that several “weird” things have happened in baseball this year, and his team making a comeback won’t be the weirdest.
You go out there and win a ballgame on Tuesday, the needle can change. There’s been a lot of weird things that have happened in baseball this year. This would not be the weirdest, us rallying.
Aaron Boone told the reporters

The Yankees did script history by rallying back in the Wild Card Series this year. After losing Game 1 against the Boston Red Sox, the Bronx Bombers came back to win Games 2 and 3. They thus became the first team to come back and win the best-of-three Wild Card Series after losing Game 1 since its inception in 2022.
The Yankees also have a history of making a comeback while being 2-0 down in a postseason series. There have been 6 instances where they lost the first 2 games of the series and then went on to win. The last time they did so was in 2017 in the ALDS against the Cleveland Guardians.
After losing Games 1 and 2 in Cleveland, the Yanks won Game 3 1-0 with a solo home run from Greg Bird being the difference. They won 7-3 in Game 4 and knocked out the Guardians with a 5-2 win in Game 5, thus completing the comeback.
They then found themselves 2-0 down again, this time in the American League Championship Series (ALCS) against the Houston Astros but came back to win Games 3, 4 and 5 to take a 3-2 lead. After that, the Yanks lost Game 6 and 7 and were eliminated from the postseason.
