The New York Yankees were eliminated from the 2025 playoffs on Wednesday following a 5-2 loss against the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 4 of the American League Division Series (ALDS). After their exit, Alex Rodriguez went off on the team’s front office and once again defended Aaron Boone.

The Yankees managed to reach the ALDS after taking down the Boston Red Sox in the best-of-three Wild Card Series. After losing the first game, they came back to win Games 2 and 3 and knocked out their arch rivals.

Things, however, did not go the way they were hoping for in the ALDS against the Blue Jays. They lost the first two games and found themselves on the brink. A 9-6 win in Game 3 forced Game 4 and gave them another fighting chance.

The Blue Jays once again topped them and emerged as 5-2 winners. The win sealed their passage to the American League Championship Series (ALCS) and left the Yankees empty-handed once again.

The Yankees reached the World Series last year. After taking down the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS, they eliminated the Cleveland Guardians in the ALCS to reach their first World Series since 2009. They eventually ended up losing the Fall Classic against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Many expected the New York side to do one better than last year. However, this year, they did not even reach the ALCS. After their elimination, former Yankees star Alex Rodriguez would take a shot at the team’s management for this setback. While A-Rod did not name anyone, he would question the decisions of the team by looking at the team members.

Honestly, from the entire organization, (Aaron Boone) is the guy I would circle that is the least to be blamed. He’s got a lot of talent, but for me, personally, one of the worst constructions of a roster I’ve ever seen. You have three left-handed catchers, you have five DHs, you have a first baseman in and out. It’s just a very difficult hand for Boone.

The Yankees were no match for their division rivals in this series. They got outscored 34-19. They managed just 17 hits across the 4 games, with Aaron Judge being the only Yankees star to hit over .230 in this series. The Blue Jays, meanwhile, had 50 hits.

Alex Rodriguez recently called Aaron Boone as Yankees’ mouthpiece while questioning the front office

The New York Yankees’ front office has been in the spotlight in recent times due to the team’s constant failures in the postseason. Just a few days ago, Alex Rodriguez called Aaron Boone as the team’s mouthpiece and questioned the management.

The 2009 World Series winner would appear on the WFAN Sports Radio on Monday following the team’s 13-7 loss on Sunday. In this, A-Rod claimed that he wants to hear about the losses and management decisions from Michael Fishman and Brian Cashman. He would defend Boone and expressed that he should not be fired.

I want to listen to after the game is not necessarily Boone because you’re not making all decisions. I want to listen to Mike Fishman and Cashman, whose making these decisions, and help the fans understand why we’re doing these things.

With the loss in the ALDS, Boone now has a negative record in the postseason with the Yankees. Since he took charge of the team in 2018, the team has managed to reach the playoffs in all but one season (2022).

They have played in 52 postseason games under Boone’s leadership. With a 3-4 record this year, the team is now 25-27 with Boone as their manager in the postseason. They have suffered 3 Division Series losses (2018, 2020, 2025), 2 ALCS losses (2019, 2022), 1 Wild Card loss (2022), and 1 World Series loss (2024) under his reign.

For the Yankees, it’s time to regroup again. After their loss, Boone expressed that he would return as the manager next year. He and the management will have several things to sort out in the offseason as their wait for title number 28 extends.
