It is safe to say that Cristiano Ronaldo was not in the wrong as Al-Nassr failed to overcome a resolute Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League final. The reigning League champions were comfortably in control for the majority of the game, up until Ayman Ahmed helped Al-Nassr claw their way back into the game. As the score remained the same throughout extra-time, penalties were to decide the winner in the final.

Despite their dominance in open play as well as in extra-time, Al-Nassr were presented a golden opportunity to grab the advantage early on in the penalty shootout. Al-Hilal midfielder and penalty ‘expert’ Ruben Neves surprisingly sent his shot wide of the post, giving Al-Nassr’s first penalty taker a golden opportunity.

Having missed a penalty earlier in the AFC Champions League, fans hoped that it would be the Brazilian’s redeeming moment for the club. However, the crowd dropped their heads in disappointment as the left-back fired his shot over the bar and into the stands.

Al-Nassr proceeded to lose the shootout 5-4 as their opposition tasted victory over them yet again.

Fans react to Alex Telles missing a golden chance in the penalty shootout

Cristiano Ronaldo broke down in tears as Al-Nassr let slip a golden opportunity to claim silverware this season. The 39-year-old gave it his all in the 120 minutes against Al-Hilal, and also converted his penalty in the shootout. Many fans claimed that the forward was let down by his teammates, and Alex Telles in particular.

A fan claimed that the manager shouldn’t have let the Brazilian take a penalty kick on the first place. However, opposition fans laughed at the same, claiming that Ronaldo fans somehow found a way to blame someone else for their loss yet again.

Others opined that it should’ve been Ronaldo in place of Telles to take the first shot. An Al-Nassr fan even claimed that Telles was allergic to winning trophies.

Many called for him to be sold in the upcoming transfer window while others added that players like Telles will eventually drive the League top scorer and record holder away from Al-Nassr. Some hilariously pointed fingers at Ronaldo for not giving Telles a chance to train his penalties because the No.7 took ‘all of them’. In the end, some fans concluded that no matter the excuse, Ronaldo fans somehow found a way to shift the blame away from their favorite player.
