Ex-New York Yankees baseman Alex Verdugo is finally ready to make a move with top MLB teams showing interest in him. Following top players already leaving the market, the free agency had stalled for a while.
Notable players who are still remaining in free agency are – Pete Alonso, Alex Bregman, Anthony Santander, Ha-Seong Kim, and Jurickson Profar. In the international market, the spotlight is all on Japanese ace pitcher Roki Sasaki.
Alex Verdugo is receiving interest from three teams so far – the Toronto Blue Jays, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the New York Mets. 2024 has been a down year for the baseman who posted 61 RBI with a hitting record of .233/.291/.356 with 13 home runs.
The NY Yankees signed him for a 1-year $8.7 million deal after his stint with the Boston Red Sox. However, he has failed to find his footing in the Bronx and his offensive has plummeted to a high degree.

According to MLB insider Chris Cotillo, the Pirates are “a team to watch” with respect to Verdugo’s free agency. He even noted that the NY Mets are “involved” in talks with the baseman and may add him to bolster their lineup for 2025.
Alex Verdugo expressed interest to stay with NY Yankees
Following the World Series, Alex Verdugo talked about how he wanted to stay in the Bronx and help the pinstripes in their run for the championship trophy. Last year the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series in five games against the New York Yankees.
While Verdugo is a versatile player, he played left fielder for the Yanks in the 2024 season. He mentioned how he’s felt closer to the Yankees than any other teams he has played with and wanted to remain with them.
"I definitely want to be back in pinstripes to help us win one."

Unfortunately, a tough decision had to be made putting aside personal feelings. Now with Pirates and Mets actively interested in the baseman, he may sign with either team by the end of the offseason.
