Monday night turned out to be a crazy experience for the New York Yankees, especially for outfielder Alex Verdugo during their game against the Washington Nationals. Verdugo was faced with two scary instances that could’ve potentially landed the 28-year-old in the IL.
Thankfully, the test reports came negative, and he was able to contribute during Monday night’s 5-2 win over Nationals. The first incident took place when he ran into the left field fence, and again during the 2nd inning, Verdugo literally came face-to-face with the wall.
During his run for a catch off Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz, Alex Verdugo slammed face-first into the fence wall and fell down within seconds. However, within a few seconds, he managed to keep his cool and throw the ball back to captain Aaron Judge so he could fire it back to Andres Chaparro, Nationals baseman for the chain play.
I felt like I had a good beat on it the whole way. Just was a little nervous when that wall was gonna come up, that’s kinda really it…Somebody said I had room, and then I mighta heard wall at the end. And then I caught it and went to look and it was just a face full of wall.Alex Verdugo as per Ben Krimmel of SNY.

His teammates appreciated the effort but called it a scary incident as it could’ve hurt the outfielder badly. NY Yankees manager Aaron Boone called it a “tremendous, all-out play”. Yankees catcher Austin Wells expressed concern for his teammate saying, “That was a scary moment, but I’m glad he’s OK and he made a sick catch, so that was sweet.”
Alex Verdugo talks about his batting gloves allergy and Franklin’s new product
Recently Alex Verdugo opened up about his batting gloves allergy and said how it has been haunting him for quite a few years. What he first thought was a skin issue, was later revealed to have been an allergic reaction on his hands due to the chemicals used in the batting gloves.
On Saturday, Franklin delivered its new product to Verdugo, a new pair of batting gloves that were made without the use of cobalt or chromate chemicals. The 28-year-old was surprised to see that there wasn’t any difference other than him having no allergic reactions.
They feel the same. I’m kind of surprised – same color combo, nothing different.Alex Verdugo as per Mark W. Sanchez of NY Post.

He said he first noticed blisters and red blotches on his hand in 2021 or 2022, but the symptoms remained the same nonetheless. He said he often tapped the back of his hand while wearing the gloves and was unsure what he was dealing with.
It was this year’s All-Star break when he got diagnosed with the allergy. He said he was looking forward to using gloves “with no tape on my hands” and it just makes it “a lot easier to do a lot more things.”

Since the season started, Verdguo’s performance has gone downhill, but whether it was due to the batting gloves is not yet confirmed. Currently, the baseballer noted how much he’s feeling comfortable with the new product from Franklin, and hopes to level up his performance after this much-needed boost.
