Holger Rune is expected to miss the rest of the ATP Tour season after suffering a severe Achilles injury at the Stockholm Open. The incident took place during his semifinal match against Ugo Humbert in Sweden.

In the wake of Rune’s injury, Alexander Bublik has called on the ATP Tour to review and adjust its scheduling. He argued that the packed calendar puts excessive strain on players’ bodies and increases the risk of serious injuries late in the season. Bublik said on Instagram story:

We need changes in our schedule @atptour. @holgerrune you’ll be back stronger.

This view has also been echoed by Taylor Fritz and Jack Draper, who previously shared similar frustrations on X. Draper, who has endured his own season-ending injury, said the tour’s intensity leaves little time for proper recovery between tournaments.

It’s gonna be a while before I can step on court again. It’s tough. I had so much joy on court in Stockholm and it’s unbearable to think that I will not feel this energy for some time now. My Achilles is full broken on the proximal part meaning I need operation already next week and from here rehabilitation…thank you for all your support now and always . Without you nothing would be the same . See you as soon as possible.

Rune admitted the recovery ahead will be difficult and said it’s painful to imagine being sidelined for so long. His emotional exit from the court left fans and fellow players deeply moved.
