Alexander Bublik was in no mood to keep things calm between him and Corentin Moutet because of what the latter said ahead of their second-round match at the Paris Masters. They met on October 29, and Bublik, with a 6-3, 7-5 win, responded to him with a cheeky message on the camera.

“On the way home,” wrote Bublik on the camera after the match. Moutet, prior to the match, said he wanted to send Bublik home.

We know he’s very provocative with many players; he likes to mock his opponents. I’m going to stay focused on my game, with the help of the crowd. We’ve had our differences in the past; let’s just say he doesn’t represent the values I stand for as an athlete in his behavior. But well, we’re all different, and that’s important for tennis too. I’m going to come in highly motivated and try to send him packing.

Corentin Moutet said at a press conference

In an entertaining clash, the 28-year-old made sure that the home favorite didn’t achieve his goal. When he was asked about the camera message during his on-court interview, Bublik rubbed salt in the wound.

Well, obviously, he spoke too much before the match. He spoke too much. I just have to punish him. I have no other option… He said he would do everything to send me home. So it’s nice that he lives in Paris and it’s not too far with the taxi.

The World No.13 now holds a 2-0 head-to-head record over Moutet, who has yet to win a tour-level singles title. Prior to the latest clash, they met in the quarterfinals of the Phoenix Challengers, where both engaged in a heated altercation, with Bublik asking Moutet to fight him outside.

Bublik also hasn’t tasted success in a Masters 1000 event. He, in fact, is aiming to reach his first semifinal at this level. Only twice he reached the quarterfinals (at the 2021 Miami Open and Madrid Open).

This year, his best performance in a Masters 1000 event was a fourth-round appearance at the Madrid Open. In Paris, Bublik reached the third round in 2023, while last year, his run ended in the second round.

Alexander Bublik will lock horns with Taylor Fritz in the third round

Alexander Bublik‘s next-round match is expected to be nothing but a tough one, as he will be up against fourth seed Taylor Fritz. The American knocked out Aleksandar Vukic in the previous round.

Bublik has met Fritz six times, with both winning three matches each. On indoor hardcourt, they have met once, in the round robin stage of the Davis Cup in 2022, which the 2024 US Open finalist won. Fritz, in fact, emerged victorious in their last three encounters.

Fritz is chasing his third title of the season following two wins on grass courts at the Stuttgart Open and the Eastbourne International. In the Masters 1000s, he has only once lifted a title, the 2022 Indian Wells, by defeating Rafael Nadal. It was the only time he reached a Masters 1000 final.

This year in tournaments at this level, Fritz played two semifinals, at the Miami Open and the Canadian Open. Before arriving in Paris, Fritz played the Swiss Indoors, where his run was ended by Ugo Humbert in the round of 16. Bublik was in Vienna before Paris and lost to eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the quarterfinals.

If Bublik knocks out Fritz, he will reach a career-high No.13 on the rankings table. Winning the tournament will make him a top 10 player.
