Alexander Bublik quickly shut down claims that he was on the American level as Carlos Alcaraz after claiming an excellent win over World No.4 Taylor Fritz at the Paris Masters. The Kazakhstani has been one of the standout players on tour since the French Open, winning 29 of his last 33 matches on tour.

Aside from Alcaraz, no player on tour has won more titles than Bublik this season. The 28-year-old has won four titles this year, the same as Jannik Sinner, while Alcaraz has claimed eight, including two Grand Slams. The Kazakhstani has been hugely impressive since the French Open, where he reached the quarter-finals after beating Jack Draper.

Bublik then claimed his first title of the season at the Terra Wortmann Open, where he defeated Sinner and Daniil Medvedev en route to the title. He then went on to claim the Gstaad Open, Generali Open, and during the Asian swing the Hangzhou Open. His form has propelled him into a new career-high ranking of World No.13.

In fact, he’s a contestant for the ATP Finals in Turin as one spot is yet to be claimed. Should he win the Paris Masters, he’s sure to play at the prestigious season-ending tournament in Italy. Besides that, he could also make his debut in the top 10 of the ATP rankings if he goes on to win the Masters 1000 title in Paris.

During his interview with Tennis Channel, he was compared to Alcaraz because he has only lost four matches on tour since Roland Garros. But Bublik was not interested in the comparison and demanded that Alcaraz shouldn’t be disrespected because he had liked the Spaniard since he was 16 years old:

No — but first of all, you cannot compare me to Carlos in any way. Don’t disrespect Carlos. I’ve liked him since he was 16 years old, playing on a side court in Australia. Don’t disrespect him like that. But yes, obviously, I’ve become better at choosing my shots. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be winning matches this often or staying consistent throughout the season. Since April, I’ve been fairly consistent, and I hope to continue the same way.

Bublik got himself in a clash of words in the press with Corentin Moutet after beating the Frenchman in the second round of the Paris Masters. The 28-year-old revealed that Moutet talks too much each time he faced him on the court and was happy after beating him in Paris with the intention of shutting him up.

Alexander Bublik opens up on the feeling he had before facing Taylor Fritz at the Paris Masters

Alexander Bublik shockingly defeated Taylor Fritz in the round of 16 of the Paris Masters. Fritz was the favorite to win the clash considering his form on the court this season, but Bublik played a perfect game to breeze past the American star. He won their clash 7-6(5), 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals of the tournament.

Bublik had lost his last three meetings against Fritz before they faced off in Paris. During the aforementioned interview, he opened up on the feeling he had when he took to the court against Fritz. He added that at first he didn’t expect to beat the World No.4:

When you go up against someone who’s No. 4 in the world at the end of the season, you don’t expect to win the match. So I thought, ‘Okay, what can I do?’ I can serve, stay in the rally, and hope for the best. That’s what I did. Then I started feeling maybe he wasn’t feeling well — maybe he missed certain backhands that he usually doesn’t miss.

Bublik faced Alex de Minaur in the quarter-finals of the Paris Masters. De Minaur led the 28-year-old 3-1 in their head-to-head record ahead of the match, but Bublik had other plans as he beat the Australian in three sets to advance to the semi-finals.
