The matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Colorado Avalanche produced a flurry of goals. In a one-sided game, the Lightning ran away as 8-2 winners following a goaltending collapse of the Avs. One of their goalies, Alexander Georgiev threw his stick away in frustration.

In the first period, the Avalanche found themselves 3-1 down. This led to coach Jared Bednar replacing goalie Justus Annunen with Georgiev. This move did not improve the fortunes of the team as he conceded two more goals to end the first period 5-1 down.

The hosts did not slow down in the second period. On a powerplay halfway through the period, Brayden Point tucked away the puck from close range to make it 6-1 one.

This boiled over the frustrations of Georgiev who banged his hockey stick on top of the crossbar. After that, he threw it away in anger as he conceded his third goal since coming on.

In the presser, the head coach claimed that he (Georgiev) battled hard in front of goal. However, after the move to introduce in place of Justus Annunen did not work out, Bednar decided to bring him out and give him some rest.

I thought Georgiev battled hard. But, we’ve got a big week coming up, I’ve got to plan ahead a little bit too. I didn’t love the start from Juice [Justus Annunen], so we went to Georgi. We went back to Juice to give Georgi some rest. It was a scheduled start, so that Georgiev can get some rest here.

Jared Bednar said as per Guerilla Sports

The 52-year-old also spoke on Georgiev’s stick-throwing incident and other players showing their frustrations during this game. Bednar expressed that he does not blame them for this.

Hey, listen, they’re frustrated, probably upset with themselves, one another, everyone, I don’t blame them for having emotion and not liking the way the game was going. It was 5-1 at the time, 6-1 at the time. So is what it is, they’ll get past it

Jared Bednar added

This huge defeat leaves the Avalanche with a 12-10-0 record for the season. They will now return home and take on the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday and hope to bounce back from this massive setback.
