Before becoming a UFC legend, Volkanovski’s athletic journey began in rugby league, where he played as a powerful forward. His transition to MMA came after developing a passion for combat sports, quickly proving his talent with a combination of relentless pressure, wrestling, and striking. This ultimately led to his UFC debut in 2016 which was in the lightweight division.
After his UFC debut in the lightweight division, Volkanovski revealed that he would move down to the featherweight division. He then went on to defeat notable names, including Chad Mendes and UFC legend Jose Aldo. This led to a championship fight against Max Holloway at UFC 245, which ended in a unanimous decision victory for the Australian native. Afterward, he defended his title five times.
In recent years, Volkanovski has faced some of the toughest challenges of his career, including back-to-back losses against Islam Makhachev and Ilia Topuria, as well as a competitive featherweight division hungry to claim his spot. While his reign at the top was defined by consistency and resilience, his more recent fights have showcased his willingness to test himself against the best across multiple divisions.
However, after Topuria’s move to lightweight, Alexander Volkanovski defeated Diego Lopes at UFC 314 to regain his championship gold. This latest prank is another reminder of why Volkanovski remains a fan favorite. Beyond the championships and accolades, his charisma and approachability continue to endear him to supporters around the world.

Not many people can come back from losses, let alone knockout losses, be up again and still point to the ground to say, ‘let’s do it.’ He really is a BMF.
