Alexander Zverev opened up about his recent struggles which affected his performance. Zverev will be participating in the Paris Masters and ahead of his match against Tallon Griekspoor, he expressed his hope of playing good tennis.

Zverev is 61-20 on the season and lifted just one title. He defeated Nicolas Jarry in the final of the Italian Open, after which, he came close to winning his first Grand Slam trophy when he reached the French Open final. He was up against four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz, who won the match in five sets.

At Wimbledon, he suffered a knee injury during his third-round match against Cameron Norrie. Following Wimbledon, he reached the summit clash of the German Open, but since then, he failed to advance to the final of the five tournaments he played.

Everything was going well. And then, you know, an injury at Wimbledon happened. Then I had some health problems. I wasn’t playing well. I wasn’t performing well. I wasn’t feeling well either. So I had a little bit of a dip. But yeah, I hope I can come back. We still have two big tournaments left, and obviously, I want to play my best tennis there.

The two-time Grand Slam finalist is also playing doubles at the Paris Masters and has teamed up with Brazil’s Marcelo Melo. They will play their first match against the American pair of Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek.

They first locked horns in the 2021 Wimbledon, which Zverev won. The Dutchman registered his first win over Zverev in their next encounter, in the fourth round in Rotterdam last year. Zverev will be playing his first match at Paris Masters following his quarterfinal exit from the Vienna Open, where Lorenzo Musetti defeated him in three sets. Griekspoor, on the other hand, beat Luciano Darderi in the opening round following his Swiss Indoors first-round exit. The two-time title winner is yet to clinch his first trophy of this season.
