French Open has officially seen everything, as they recently witnessed a player allegedly trying to scam the umpire. During the quarter-final match between Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur on Wednesday, the German performed an act of a scam in tennis.

Zverev opted for the ‘ball’ side during the match toss. However, when the coin was tossed, he had to go pick it up and give it back to the umpire announcing that it landed on the ‘racket’ side. The umpire had rightly turned to de Minaur, who was about to choose, but the German intercepted saying that he chose racket.

The umpire then gave it to the German, who then chose to receive it at the end. No one realized during the time of the match but afterward, netizens saw the video and filled the comment section with trolls. “A liar and abuser. These things go hand in hand,” commented an X user below the video clip.

Tennis fans also pointed out that the German even made it look like he was graciously giving the Australian a chance to pick. Nonetheless, he won the toss and had a clear lead in the match because of that.

Despite all the controversies around the match, Zverev had gotten off to a great start and put the Australian under pressure. Eventually, the German won the match in straight sets 6-4, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to advance to the finals. Fans, however, were disappointed at Zverev for the toss incident. Here are a few more fan reactions.

Nevertheless, Zverev made it to his fourth consecutive French Open semi-finals and will take on Casper Ruud, who is still fresh after getting a straight pass through to the last four. With the defending champion Novak Djokovic out of the tournament, Zverev finds himself with a golden chance to try and win a Slam once and for all.
