Alexander Zverev confident that he can play through the busy schedule
Alexander Zverev
German tennis player Alexander Zverev, recently, had spoke about his intent to play at the Western & Southern Open and US Open, both to be held in New York.
“We will see when this season will continue, where it will continue. Surely we hope that happens in New York. But the US is currently a dangerous place to visit, but we will see what they will decide about the tournament,” said Zverev while speaking on the sidelines of the Ultimate Tennis Showdown.
Zverev added that he was not afraid and said, “No, I’m not afraid. I look forward to it. I look forward to competing again.”
Tight schedule ahead, Zverev is confident
The big concern for most tennis players is the short time they have to adjust to when the hard-court season ends and before the clay-court season begins.
The US Open ends on September 13 and the Madrid Open starts the day after. In the two weeks after the US Open, the French Open is scheduled to be held.
When asked about such a busy schedule, Zverev stated that he had done something like that before and hoped his young body could help him through the rest of the season.
“I did that last season. I did a grass-court tournament, after that a few clay-court tournaments, followed by a hard-court tournament. In three weeks, I played on three different fields. “I’m still quite young, so I hope I can adjust better than other players,” explained Zverev.
Zverev stays silent on the Adria Tour
For the German, the match against the Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime on Saturday evening was the first appearance since the Adria Tour.
There he had come under criticism at the end of June for his behavior during the coronavirus crisis. Zverev did not answer questions about this and his cancellation for the invitation tournament in Berlin.
US Open will go ahead
American tennis association USTA had confirmed its plans to host the US Open without spectators.
The women’s and men’s tournament, which was relocated from Cincinnati to New York, is to be held in Flushing Meadows beforehand. With the COVID-19 numbers in the USA still in it’s heights, many players have expressed their concerns.
