Alexander Zverev has decided to keep mum about his domestic violence trial during his Roland Garros campaign. The trial was scheduled to start on Friday (May 31) and Zverev, who secured a second-round win a day before, was asked about it at the press conference.
Zverev’s ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea, who is also the mother of his daughter Mayla, accused the German player of domestic abuse last year. The 27-year-old is represented by his legal team in the trial in Berlin as he is staying in Paris for the tournament.

After his 7-6(7-4), 6-2, 6-2 win over David Goffin in the second round, Sascha was asked whether he would follow the day-to-day progress of the trial and how he was dealing with it. He said he gave his opinion on the matter in the pre-tournament press conference. “I said everything before the tournament,” was Zverev’s blunt reply.
French Open director Amelie Mauresmo was also asked to comment on the situation ahead of the main draw. The two-time Grand Slam champion stated that Zverev wouldn’t be barred from participating in the tournament until proven guilty.
Alexander Zverev is confident of winning the legal procedure
Ahead of his first-round match at the French Open, Alexander Zverev was asked to give his remarks on the domestic abuse trial. He said he was confident of winning the legal procedure, that’s why he won’t be thinking about it during the tournament in order to concentrate on his matches.

At the end of the day, I do believe in the German system. I do believe in the truth. Not out of my hands, but I do believe that I'm not going to miss this procedure… There's absolutely no chance I am. That's why I can play calmly, and I think my results have been showing that.Alexander Zverev said at the press conference
Back in 2020 as well, Zverev’s ex-girlfriend, Olga Sharypova, accused him of domestic abuse. Then in 2021, American journalist Ben Rothenberg published an investigative report in which Sharypova opened up about the violence, alleging that Zverev had hit her multiple times.
It’s also worth noting that the ATP doesn’t have a policy for domestic abuse charges. In 2021, after Zverev’s case, ATP announced that it would review its policies.
Zverev, meanwhile, will face Tallon Griekspoor in the third round on June 1. It will be their fourth meeting, having previously faced each other in 2021 Wimbledon, 2023 Rotterdam, a Masters 1000 event in Canada, and this year’s Indian Wells Masters. The only time the Dutchman secured the win was in the Rotterdam event.
