A furious Alexander Zverev raged in front of the umpire as he faced many issues during his second match at the Bavaria Open. The clay courts of Bavaria have hosted many tournaments over the years, but this time, the heavy rain has made it difficult for the players.

The German was up against Cristian Garin in the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament. However, the weather had some different plans for both players.

Zverev, in particular, was upset with the condition of the court. Given his injury record, it was very dangerous for the German to play on a washed-up clay court. He wanted the match to be called off due to the bad weather, but the umpires showed a deaf attitude towards him.

After multiple complaints, the German lost his cool and let all his frustration on the umpire. He threatened the umpire that he would quit his match midway if nothing was done about the match.

At what point are we gonna do something? At what point? Just tell me. Are we not gonna do anything the entire match? Then I’m done. I’m just gonna tank the next two games and I’m done. This is ridiculous. It’s been literally raining.
Said Zverev

Unfortunately, the umpire took no action, and Zverev was forced to play on bad court, eventually losing to the 27-year-old in straight sets.

Cristian Garin became the first player outside the Top 100 to beat Alexander Zverev in straight sets since 2015

Alexander Zverev, the No. 1 seed at the ongoing BMW Open, had a lot of expectations riding on him to win the title. However, due to the severe conditions of the court and the weather playing spoils, Zverev faced many difficulties during the match and was not ready to give his 100% on the court.

It was less than ideal conditions for the German, who could not attack continuously. Soon, he was break points down, giving his opponent momentum toward him, who then capitalized on the advantage to bag a huge win.

He lost to Garin in straight sets, making it his first straight-set loss to a player out of the Top 100 since 2015. Moreover, the Chilean will now face Taylor Fritz in the semifinals of the BMW Open.
