Alexander Zverev has kickstarted his 2025 Australian Open on the bright after ensuring he qualified for the third round with a straight sets victory. The German has often had the problem of playing four or five sets in the early rounds of the Grand Slam tournament in the past. But despite winning easily this year, he has made a complaint about his schedule in Melbourne.
The World No.2 has missed opportunities to win a Grand Slam in recent years, which has made the 2025 season a very important one for his breakthrough. Last season, he played some great tennis, winning two Masters 1000 titles, and has continued in the same fashion at the Australian Open.
He opened his account by defeating former semi-finalist Lucas Pouille in straight sets 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. In the second round, he defeated Pedro Martínez 6-1, 6-4, 6-1 to reach the third round. However, all those matches were played during the day. Meanwhile, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic have gotten to play in the night in Melbourne.
During Zverev’s press conference, he hinted that the Australian Open organizers prefer making sure that Djokovic and Alcaraz play in the night than him. The German star added that he loves playing in the night but the officials have not heeded to his request because he isn’t influential.
I really love playing in night sessions because I know the atmosphere is more electric and I like that. Afterward, I also know that my requests to play there will come after those of Djokovic, who has more influence, just like Alcaraz; mine will be taken into account in 4th, and 5th position; that’s how it is; I have to get used to it.

Alexander Zverev will be banking on his improvements in recent months to help him win his first Grand Slam at the Australian Open. The German star has faced criticism for not doing enough on this kind of big stage, but this year may be his lucky time. He was handed a good draw in the tournament and will face Jacob Fearnley in the third round.

Ahead of his tie with the British star, Zverev revealed that he looks forward to playing in the second week of he Australian and respects his opponent.
I respect Jacob a lot, he has done everything he could to get here and he is playing his best tennis. I will have to play well to get to the second week of the Australian Open.

The ATP World No.2 will face Fearnley on Friday (January 17) at Melbourne Park. Zverev is a huge favorite to beat the 23-year-old British star, but he must put on his best display not to suffer an upset.
