Despite concerns regarding his form due to an arm injury which lead him to pull out of the United Cup, Zverev reflected positively on his performance and anticipated upcoming matches. The Tokyo Olympics gold medalist is yet to win a Grand Slam title. He has been a finalist at two Grand Slams- the US Open 2020, where he lost to Dominic Thiem and the French Open 2024, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz.

Alexander Zverev speaks highly about Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic ahead of their clash

This ‘boring’ matchup between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic is scheduled to take place tonight at the Rod Laver Arena. It will be the eighth meeting between the Serb and the Spaniard, who currently have a head-to-head record of 4-3. While Alcaraz’s present form is exceptional, he has never beaten Djokovic on a hard court.

This match is going to be a clash of generations between an all time great in his twilight years and an emerging powerhouse of talent. Their notable encounters include the Wimbledon finals at 2023 and 2024 which was won by the Spaniard and the Paris Olympics 2024 final which was won by the Serb, who just had the Olympic gold medal missing from his impressive list of achievements until that moment.

I mean two of the best players that probably ever touched the tennis racket- Novak is the is the greatest of all time right now…Carlos is going to be one of them when when he hangs it up. So, it’s a clash of generations they have played Grand Slam finals before, they had played the Olympic finals last year so it’s a privilege to to witness it here in Australia.

Both Alcaraz and Djokovic are aiming to script history at this Grand Slam. Alcaraz is eyeing to be the youngest man to complete a career Grand Slam, the present record of which is held by Rafael Nadal. Nadal achieved this feat by winning the 2010 US Open at the age of 24.

Meanwhile, Djokovic who holds a record 10 titles at the Australian Open is seeking his 11th title and aslo an unprecedented 25th Grand Slam title. He is tied with Australian great Margaret Court for 24 Grand Slam titles.
