‘I took some big painkillers,’ Alexander Zverev reveals backstory behind early exit in Miami

World No.6 Alexander Zverev has now become a bankable player and is one of the most consistent players on tour currently. If the ranking system wouldn’t have been changed, he would sit comfortably in the Top 5.
However, the German has suffered early round losses in the last two tournaments he has played- The Miami Masters and the Monte Carlo Masters. He lost to Emil Ruusuvuori in three sets after winning the first set easily 6-1. In Monte Carlo, he lost to David Goffin in straight sets.
It was speculated in Miami that Zverev has facing some sort of physical issues during his match against Ruusuvuori which he confirmed ahead of the BMW Open.
‘I could not hold my racket’: Alexander Zverev

Before his Round of 16 match against Ricardas Berankis in Munich, Zverev revealed that he was in so much pain in Miami that he couldn’t even hold his racket.
He said: “In Miami I was feeling so much elbow pain that I could not hold my racket. I took some big painkillers. Now I am not feeling pain anymore and hopefully I can play without thinking about it.”
On tour, Zverev cruised into the quarter-finals in Munich defeating Berankis in straight sets 6-2,6-4. The top seed will face the winner of Ilya Ivashka and Mackenzie McDonald in the Last 8.
