The tennis world is buzzing with anticipation of Alexander Zverev’s trial case. However, amidst this anticipation, he received a heartfelt birthday wish from his girlfriend, Sophia Thomalla. The German was celebrating his 27th birthday after a disappoiting loss in the Bavarian International quarterfinal match.
Thomalla, a renowned German model, took to her Instagram to wish her boyfriend a happy birthday and even posted a beautiful black-and-white picture of them together in a pool.

However, as expected, his birthday was overlooked by the upcoming domestic violence trial.

For context, last November, Zverev was fined a hefty sum of $478,995 by the German court for physically abusing his girlfriend Brenda Patea. After having denied these allegations, the German ace is now set to attend a trial in a German court on May 31, which will run through June and July. Unfortunately, he might miss the French Open and Wimbledon due to this.
Nonetheless, his girlfriend doesn’t shy away from showing her support for Zverev. She is a constant source of motivation for her boyfriend and is seen cheering him on during the matches. The fans have already had a glimpse of their relationship on the docuseries BreakPoint.
Alexander Zverev joins the few top players to have lost in their home tournament in straight sets in consecutive years
German ace Alexander Zverev has rarely had a great start to the clay season. This year was no different, as the German started his European run with a loss at the Monte Carlo Masters.

In an attempt to redeem himself, he played in the BMW Open, which is his home tournament, only to lose in the second round itself.
Despite being the No. 1 seed, the German lost early. It was a heated match between Cristian Garin and him, where the weather played spoils. Due to the uninvited rain, the court became hard to play on and caused trouble for the German, who lost in straight sets.
Interestingly enough, this was no different from his last year’s run at the same tournament, where he lost to Christopher O’Connell 6-7,4-6. This gave him an unwanted record of having two straight-set losses in consecutive years in his home tournament. However, he will hope to redeem himself at the French, provided that his trial doesn’t get in the way of his run.
