World No. 2 Alexander Zverev has shared that he has done “research” into the ongoing issue with tennis ball quality. The debate over whether tennis balls should be changed has gained attention again this week at the ATP Finals.

Each tournament often brings a new brand of tennis balls, even if the court surface remains the same. Zverev now argues that the overall quality of these balls has declined, which has become a major topic in recent years.

Ball quality is a big topic. Actually, being on the players’ council, the ball was a very interesting topic for me as well. I went into a bit of research mode. I interviewed companies and asked about the production of tennis balls. They have become much slower.

Alexander Zverev stated in a press conference (H/T: Punto de Break)

Many players, including Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev, have voiced concerns about switching balls each week. They say the balls quickly become fluffier and heavier, which slows down play and may increase the risk of injury.

The reason is that because of Covid, companies have tried to cut costs and they are now using a different rubber material. They are using a different material for tennis balls, which makes tennis balls between 30% and 60% slower on average than they were before Covid. I think in general, it’s not just one company, but in general, the balls have become much worse and much slower. They are not as consistent. They don’t last as long.

Alexander Zverev added

However, Casper Ruud has taken a different stance. The three-time Grand Slam finalist dismissed the complaints and encouraged players to stop “moaning” about the tennis balls.

I am thrilled to have a strong brand like Bitpanda by my side for the next three years, a brand that shares the same high standards I set for myself. Bitpanda’s mission to make digital assets accessible to everyone, giving people more control over their future, resonates with my belief that taking responsibility and pushing to achieve the best are key to success – both on and off the court.

Alexander Zverev said in an interview on Bitpanda

As part of the agreement, Zverev will wear the Bitpanda logo on his sleeve at all ATP and Grand Slam events worldwide. His first appearance with the branding will be at the ATP Finals in Turin. The partnership includes more than just on-court branding. Zverev and Bitpanda will host fan events, run social media campaigns, and share behind-the-scenes content from Zverev’s career, including investment insights.

Bitpanda has a history of sports partnerships to boost its profile and attract new users. Alongside Zverev, they have collaborated with tennis players Stanislas Wawrinka and Dominic Thiem and also partner with clubs like FC Bayern Munich, AC Milan, and the NFL.
