Alexander Zverev doesn’t know how it happened but it did happen, and he had a good laugh about it afterward. He is in Buenos Aires for the Argentina Open but his tennis bags got mistakenly sent to the Maldives.
Zverev shook off the disappointment of losing a Grand Slam final for the third time to prepare for the Argentina Open. The 27-year-old was in Rome from where he flew to Buenos Aires for the Golden Swing. And though he is working hard to focus on what’s ahead of him, his luggage needed a vacation and landed in the Maldievs, as the German humorously wrote on his social media.
Could anyone explain to me how on earth it is possible for me to fly from Rome to Buenos Aires but my bags instead of coming with me being send to the Maledives? I guess they need a vacation already (four laughing emoticons).

Zverev is expected to get his luggage before his opening-round match. As Zverev is the top seed in the ATP 250 event, he received the bye and won’t have to play the first round.
Zverev will be facing Roberto Carballes Baena or Dusan Lajovic to kickstart his campaign on the Golden Swing. He could face the likes of Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals and Holger Rune in the final.
Andrea Petkovic confident about Alexander Zverev’s abilities
Alexander Zverev is one of those best players who hasn’t yet tasted the Grand Slam glory. After reaching the final of the 2020 US Open, Zverev, despite leading 2-0 lost the match to Dominic Thiem.

He then suffered a five-set defeat to Carlos Alcaraz in the 2024 French Open final. And as he fell to World No.1 Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open final in straight sets, compatriot Andrea Petkovic said she is convinced that it’s not Zverev’s mindset that’s hindering him from claiming his first Major.
I don’t think that Sascha’s problem is psychological because if he had this problem, how could he have reached second place in the world? He himself has everything necessary for a great triumph. I am convinced that Alexander has the mental strength for such a triumph as well as all the shots.
Andrea Petkovic said on the Becker Petkovic podcast
Although Petkovic doesn’t doubt about Zverev’s abilities, she is not sure if Zverev believes in himself. Zverev, on the back of his French Open final and two ATP 1000 Masters titles (Italian Open and Paris Masters) in 2024, climbed back to the No.2 spot in the rankings.
