Alexander Zverev has criticized false reports about comments he made regarding his former coach, Ivan Lendl. Zverev and Lendl began working together in August 2018, but their partnership ended in July 2019. The German had previously worked with coach Juan Carlos Ferrero earlier that season as well.
After their split, Zverev shared his frustration in an interview, saying Lendl seemed more interested in golf and his dog than coaching. These comments were made in 2019, but some media outlets recently reported them as if they were new. The two-time Grand Slam finalist took to Instagram to call out the incorrect reporting and labeled it as “bad journalism.”
The 27-year-old German is now coached mainly by his father, Alexander Zverev Sr. He continues to focus on his career while addressing the media’s handling of his past remarks. Zverev has not worked with Lendl since their split in 2019.
Meanwhile, Lendl has returned to coaching on the ATP Tour. The former world No.1 is now working with Hubert Hurkacz, ranked World No.16. The Czech tennis legend has teamed up with Nicolas Massu to coach the Polish star ahead of the 2025 season.
Alexander Zverev’s chances for the Australian Open 2025
German tennis star Alexander Zverev is set to compete at the United Cup, where he will lead the German team. Germany claimed the title at the start of 2024, and Zverev will aim to guide them to a successful title defense. The tournament marks the beginning of a pivotal year for the World No. 2.
Zverev enters 2025 ranked second in the world after an impressive 2024 season. He secured Masters 1000 titles in Rome and Paris and reached the final of the French Open. His focus now is on capturing his first Grand Slam title.
The German has reached two Grand Slam finals, at the US Open in 2020 and the French Open in 2024. His only hard-court final came at the US Open, where he lost to Dominic Thiem despite holding a two-set lead. He will be determined to improve his performance in the sport’s biggest matches.
At the 2024 Australian Open, Zverev showcased a dominant performance by defeating Carlos Alcaraz. However, in the semifinals, he lost a two-set lead to Daniil Medvedev. This year, Zverev will be focused on turning those setbacks into major victories.
