Alexander Zverev speaks on Nadal, Djokovic and Federer skipping Miami

Alexander Zverev has now become one of the tournament favorites on tour. He has maintained his consistency and taken his game a level up everytime he steps on the court.

This week, it was a battle between equals as top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas and second seeded Zverev met at the Mexican Open final. World No.7 Alexander Zverev emerged victorious against his Greek counterpart to win 6-4 7-6 (3) in the ATP 500 mega event in Acapulco.

Last month, in the Australian Open, Zverev lost in the quarter-finals to the eventual champion Novak Djokovic in four sets. He also took Team Germany to the semi-finals in the ATP Cup.

“This week has been one of the most fun I have had in recent months, the tournament showed that the public can attend sporting events,” Zverev said after receiving the trophy at the Hotel Princess Mundo Imperial Arena in Mexico.

“It’s going to be an easy tournament,” Alexander Zverev on Miami Open

Alexander Zverev will next compete in Miami next week. Interestingly, none of the big 3 will compete at Miami this year. After Federer and Nadal, Djokovic also withdrew from Miami citing personal reasons.

“There are still a lot of great players to beat,” Zverev said.

“You can’t really say that just because those 3 guys are not there, it’s going to be an easy tournament to anyone. We have Medvedev, Tsitsipas. I think I’m a three seed there.”

The non-participation of the ‘Big 3’ means the end of an incredible run. Since Indian Wells 2005, atleast one of the Big 3 had competed in every Masters 1000 event, a streak of 138 events.
