Serena Williams‘ husband, Alexis Ohanian, recounted an incident when he ended up calling his family a ‘start-up’ and Williams his ‘co-founder’. The tennis player did not find it romantic.

Apart from being a businessman, Ohanian also hosts a podcast called ‘Business Dad’. In the latest episode, he invited Kanyi Maqubela and told him in detail about the aforementioned conversation with Williams. He also posted a clip of the podcast on his Instagram.

I once referred to our family as a start-up and my wife as my co-founder, and she did not find it nearly as romantic as I did. So, I take that feedback. But that was bad. That could say a lot more about me, frankly.

Williams and the Reddit co-founder met by chance in 2015 at a hotel in Rome. A year later, Ohanian proposed to her and the next year, they tied the knot. They welcomed their two daughters, Olympia, in 2017 and Adira River in 2023.

Alexis Ohanian just watched the National Football League (NFL) and thought no sport was bigger than football. But the 41-year-old’s views changed after meeting 23-time Grand Slam singles champion Serena Williams.

I didn't watch tennis until I started dating my wife. It was very much a football, NFL household. The NFL was it, and I thought that was the only sport that mattered. And then when I come to watch tennis, one of the big sports, it is the purest.

The 42-year-old turned pro in 1995 and retired from tennis in September 2022 after last playing at the US Open. She reached the third round where Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic defeated her in three sets. She also played doubles, but her campaign ended a day earlier.

Apart from the 23 major trophies in singles (the most in the Open Era), the former World No.1 has also clinched 14 doubles and two mixed doubles in Grand Slam events. Also, she is the only player to complete the Career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles, winning a combined four Olympic gold medals. In total, Williams has clinched 75 singles titles, which is also the fifth-highest in women’s tennis in the Open Era.
