Juventus women star Alisha Lehmann recently called out on the pay gap that exists between male and female footballers, in Europe. The Swiss footballer also complained about her and boyfriend Douglas Luiz’s huge salary difference, at their new club.

Alisha Lehmann and her boyfriend Douglas Luiz made the headlines this summer, for being the first couple-transfer in the history of football. They previously played at Aston Villa, but decided to move out of the English side to join Juventus this summer. Luiz joined for a massive fee of £50 million, signing a five-year long contract for £100,000-a-week, while Lehmann signed a three-year contract for £50,000. She is said to reportedly earn around £200,000-a-year, displaying the massive pay gap.

Sharing her grievance, the Swiss midfielder in a recent interview, opened up about the disparity that exists between the salaries of male and female footballers. She also claimed that her partner makes a hundred thousand times more money than her. Lehmann pointed out that it often affects her mentally, and opened up about the discussions she has with her boyfriend over these issues. Moreover, highlighting the necessity of equal pay, she noted that clubs would need willpower to make changes.

I do the same job as Douglas, play for the same club but I earn 100 times less money. It's not fair. It's something that affects me... There will have to be a very strong will to make a change in this direction.

Equal pay has emerged a major issue in football recently, with many in opposition, however, questioning the quality of women’s football. Lehmann responded to this unfair criticism of women’s football by noting the passion that the female players possess.

Luiz was on the pitch for 67 minutes, before being replaced by youngster Nicolo Fagioli. He is yet to open his scoring account for Juventus, despite already making four appearances. Against Empoli, the ex-Aston Villa midfielder had 91% passing accuracy, but failed to make a single shot. Moreover, he also recorded just one dribble and one aerial in his first start.

The Brazilian star had 20 contributions for Villa last season, and fans will be hoping for him to return back into form for the next match against PSV in the UCL. Apart from him, Teun Koopmeiners and Nico Gonzalez also made their first start for Juventus.
