Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker suffers similar fate as Jurgen Klopp as the former cannot go home to mourn his father’s passing

Jurgen Klopp’s mother Elisabeth Klopp passed away earlier this month and Jurgen was unable to attend the funeral due to travel restrictions. Alisson Becker’s father Jose Becker passed away today after he drowned while swimming in a family estate. Alisson Becker suffers the same fate Jurgen Klopp suffered from as he can’t attend his father’s funeral in Brazil now.

Alisson Becker hails from a family of goalkeepers, but he was not originally interested in being a goalkeeper. His father Jose Becker was a goalkeeper for his work football team while his mother was a handball player. His grandfather played amateur football as a goalkeeper and even his younger brother was a goalkeeper. It was while watching his younger brother Muriel practice as a goalkeeper did the young Alisson Becker learn to respect that position. Since then he has played for Internacional, AS Roma and now for Liverpool.

Travel restrictions which prevented Jurgen Klopp from attending his mother’s funeral will now prevent Alisson Becker too. His father was swimming in a dam in his family estate when the accident happened. News came yesterday that his father had gone missing from the dam and a search party had been launched, but had to be called off due to the night conditions. Firefighters later found the lifeless body of Jose Becker and declared his death due to natural causes-which was drowning.
