French tennis player Alize Cornet has expressed her disapproval of gamblers and stated that she was not answerable to them for her performances.

In the world of sports, athletes are either loved or hated by fans worldwide. Be it through social media or by the audience at sporting venues, fans voice their love or hatred towards an athlete. Usually, it is the hate that overpowers the love they receive, and it is the one that ruins an athlete’s mindset.

When I talk to people and I find out they are gamblers, I completely shut down, and I can’t talk to them anymore. I was so shocked. This is a completely absurd situation. I do not force anyone to bet on my matches and I do not guarantee my performance

Alize Cornet told Radiofrance.

The 34-year-old said while she was lucky to have the mental strength to withstand the abuse and insults, she worried for those who were too fragile to handle the hatred.

I have no regrets, or very few because I’ve given you everything in the name of my love of tennis. Dear Roland, you’ve been the greatest reward for all my hard work. So if this is to be our last dance, let’s make it one to remember! It’s what our story deserves.

Alize Cornet said in a farewell letter to Roland Garros.

Former World No. 11 Cornet owns the Open Era record (68) for most consecutive Grand Slam tournaments played. She made her main-draw debut in the Majors as a 15-year-old in Paris in 2005 and has not missed any Grand Slam main draw appearance since the 2007 Australian Open until her retirement.
